Lear (sic) from Joel Lillo - Who Cannot Spell Archeological.

Write first, party later, Joel.

Fox Valley WELS Pastor Joel Lillo;
Greg, I hate to tell you this, but it looks as if someone has hacked your account.  There is an article that has been published on Ichabod today that doesn't feature any photoshopped images of WELS pastors in clown suits.  It only has information about an important archaeolgical (sic)  dig in Galilee with an intimate connection to the work of Jesus.  It's actually interesting and informative.

You need to look into it and make sure that whoever posted it isn't able to access your account again.  Otherwise, your moronic followers will actually have to lear (sic) to read instead of just pointing at the pictures and saying, "Ha ha! Funny looking pastor!"
Just thought you needed to know.

From Zak Stowe - Recent Martin Luther College (WELS) Graduate.

MLC was going to let Zac Stowe graduate with his degree, not give him an assignment, and he was supposed to keep quiet for a few years.
A WELS member asked me to re-install
the gaydar dish at MLC.
MLC photo - Zachary Stowe graduates from Martin Luther College, WELS.

Zak Stowe just came out of the closet, after collecting his degree from MLC.

To my fellow LGBT brothers and sisters still closeted at MLC (and yes, I know you are there). As I leave college, freer then ever, I want to leave a word of encouragement. After hiding for 12 years, denying who I am, praying for God to change me, and living in fear for people finding out what I am, I now believe with all my heart that God loves me just the way I am. My Jesus does not discriminate, he does not come with conditions. His love is freely given; his grace and mercy are mine no matter who I love. I want to leave MLC with this message to those who are scared to except themselves: God loves you, Jesus loves you, I love you. I pray that one day you will love you too. I believe that wanting a call should not mean you have to give up on love. I truly believe that when everyone gathers for daily chapel, talking smack about those who don’t go regularly or who don’t adhere to the strict guidelines laid out in This We Believe, there are those of us who hide in our rooms, scared of the world and being seen for who we are. I believe that Jesus is sitting there, in the dorm room, comforting the scared and trembling soul. For those of you who want to argue doctrine with me, condemn and lambast me, please do it in a private message and I will happily respond. This post is meant to be one of encouragement so please leave the comments for supportive messages only. I know what it’s like to think that life isn’t worth living and to contemplate the unthinkable. But the world is truly a better place with us in it. I feel so blessed to have a family who loves and accepts me for who I am and I pray that you find a supportive environment wherever God's plans lead you. I am always here if you want to talk. You are not alone "'Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,' says the LORD, who has compassion on you." --Isaiah 54:10

Inherit the stupid II: when a Martin Luther College homecoming video infected WELS with the gay

PartyinthemlcstillThe reporting and reaction continue to Josh Moniz's story in the New Ulm Journal about the cancellation of a production of "Inherit the Wind." Dan Linehan supplies more details in Saturday's Mankato Free Press article, New Ulm theater cancels play after controversy, while free-thinking Christophobe and science professor P.Z. Myers takes it up inMartin Luther College looks like a total waste of time and money.
Not surprisingly, this isn't the first time that Martin Luther College  (MLC) students' self-expression ran into disapproval by the WELS faithful.
Party in the MLC
Rummaging through MLC closets, Bluestem has stumbled over an old social media tale that involves student self-censorship after a popular dorm homecoming video hit YouTube.  The September 18, 2009 MLC Update High School edition reported in Dorm Videos:
For Homecoming festivities, the four dorms put together a video to entertain the student body. (Well, not Augustana— they must have forgotten.) Concord, the frosh and sophomore men, starred NateWordell(West) in a series of misadventures to arrive at chapel on time. Centennial, the frosh and sophomore women, featured Claire Czaplewski (KML) and a team of students on a mission to conquer the Swine Flu Sprite. By far the crowd favorite was the Summit men’s video rendition(pictured)  of “Party in the USA” by Miley Cyrus.
That sounds innocent enough in the pre-twerking days of 2009.
Here's the video preserved on the Facebook page Bring back the MLC version of party in the USA!!!!!! :
The Martin Luther College  (MLC) parody of a Fire Island Pines (FIP) parody
The "Party in the MLC video was based on the Fire Island Pines (FIP) parody tribune video of the Miley Cyrus music video for "Party in the USA."   Fire Island Pines:
. . .has been a jewel in the gay community for over 60 years, and continues to be the premier vacation destination for residents and vacationers. Located just 50 miles east of New York City, The Pines is home to the most expensive real estate in Fire Island.
Here's the FIP version:
While both videos are silly rather than sexy, the fact that the MLC version was based on a gay-friendly video didn't escape notice long from either the LGBT community online nor from the WELS faithful.
To what cultural aspersions do we owe the phenomenon of remaking the remakes of music videos? The Fire Island Pines boys, who created the Miley Cyrus send-up “Party In The F.I.P,” receive their own homage with “Party In The MLC” from a bunch of dormmates at a “homecoming summit.” At, uh, Midland Lutheran College [sic]?
Keep watching, ’cause there’s a blooper reel.
Those commenting are divided about whether the video is homage to the FIP video, insulting to gay men because of the fem stereotypes that the schoolboys prance around, or totally inappropriate because the young Lutherans just aren't cute enough to be in front of a video camera.
A rather oddball Lutheran blogger posted about the video a few days later in October 2009  in Mary Lou College's Own Flock of Seagulls--or-- Girls Gone Wild:
A WELS member sent me the link to this video, which makes the previous one (the statue fight) look positively confessional in comparison.

Familiar names like Huebner and Krause star in this travesty, which includes prissy lip-synching and crotch grabbing. I thought Michael Jackson was sick when he felt compelled to do the same, but this is worse and comes from the WELS "College of Ministry."

Read the comments on the video and notice the great impression made on the audience.

Wisconsin Lutheran College mined the Marvin Schwan guilt trust
for many millions of dollars -
and hired the gay Roman Catholic Archbishop to lecture
at WLC with a group of his priests.

The sound and the fury signifying whatever
Oh the outrage! The attention from both communities lead to the creators of the video to remove it, the blogger notes in a mid-November post, Wisconsin Lutheran College Paper Defends "Party in the MLC" Video On Its Front Page! As Wise As Doves, As Innocent As Serpents:
The Wisconsin Lutheran College (WELS when raising funds) student newspaper, "The Sword," ran a Front Page! editorial / story on the MLC video, quoted in part (blue type in original):
But once the video left the context of the MLC campus, it came under unforeseen criticism from some who failed to see the humor in the video.
The most pronounced critic of the video was independent Lutheran pastor and blogger Gregory Jackson. Posts from Jackson, as well as comments left by the blog's readers, labeled the actions of the MLC students featured in the video unbecoming to future WELS pastors and teachers.
These claims were based on the video from which the creators of "Party in the MLC" took their inspiration--a previous YouTube video known as "Party in the FIP." Set to the tune of "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus, "Party in the FIP" shows a group of men performing choreographed routines on a beach while lip-synching the lyrics of the song."
"Party in the MLC" is a parody of the video, using the same soundtrack and many of the same routines.
The controversy over MLC students parodying "Party in the FIP" is derived from the lifestyle associated with "the FIP."
But makers of the "Party in the MLC" agree with other viewers that none of the actions in the "Party in the FIP" video would be considered blatant homosexuality. They also admit no previous knowledge of the reputation of Fire Island Pines. Ben Reichel, MLC student and video contributor, revealed, "We didn't find out until two or three days after we posted it that that's what it stood for. After we learned that we were kind of taken aback."
After learning of the offense caused by the video, the students decided to remove the video "out of Christian love" for those who found the video inappropriate. The decision to remove the video was a personal decision made by the creators of the video.
Reichel stated, "We all got together as a group --the guys who were in the video--and we realized that this caused way too much commotion and way too much negativity, and we all decided together that we were going to take it down."
After meeting amongst (sic) themselves, the students sought the advice of college administration. Reichel continued, "We went and talked to the administration here at MLC--the president and vice-president--and we got their thoughts on it too. But we knew before we even talked to them that we were going to take it down."
Matt Rothe, classmate of Reichel and video contributor, along with the rest of the students involved with the video, are ready to put "Party in the MLC" and the attention it has received in the past; "The group of guys who made this video only wished for good to come out of this video, and I must express firmly we wish for no more negative attention from it."
GJ - The WLC student newspaper has a lot of facts wrong. They did not make any effort to seek clarification. They are now drawing even more attention to the video and revealing that the students were not at all repentant, just resentful they got caught.

First of all, a WELS layman was furious over the video, which was posted on You Tube for all the world to see. Many people provide information to this blog so the rest of Lutherdom can see it. This layman was unable to watch more than a minute of it. I posted the video so people could see for themselves, as he wished.

The MLC students jumped in to defend the video right away, and now WLC has joined them. Their defense is to attack me, but the video stands on its own as a dubious production, whether I like it or not.

The defense of the video was so ridiculous that I did a little more research and found the original, "Party in the FIP." They knew what they were copying, and they acknowledged it rather quietly in the notes. Apparently the original went viral right away, thanks to various homosexual websites.

College students know how to use Google. Where else would they copy their homework from? Kelm, Parlow, and Limmer have shown that slavish copying is a good career move in WELS. To plead ignorance about Fire Island Pines is a bit absurd. All of the sudden these guys just fell off the haywagon when they landed in Metropolitan New Ulm.

And they thought the FIP video was straight? They should be on SNL, in a skit about their lack of gaydar. . . .
Bluestem is left to ponder what it means that "Party in the MLC" was the overwhelming favorite of Homecoming Dorm Videos at Martin Luther College.  We couldn't possibly comment on that.

WELS Facebook Evasions. Eighth Commandment and Matthew 18.

  • Jim Schulz So he's a Michigan Lutheran Seminary grad?
  • Ethan Schulz yep, and spent some time at MLC
  • Jim Schulz Is his partner a gay cougar? He looks 20 years older.
  • Gregory L. Jackson He could have found plenty of action in WELS. I am shocked he left: videos, hymnal design, public relations at the Love Shack, and pastoral or teaching ministries.
  • Caleb Schmiege None of this is helpful to anyone.
  • Ethan Schulz I think reposting the article is helpful in that it shows how *not* to deal with a situation like this. It looks like Scott's pastor and other mentors in the WELS system hated both the sinner and the sin, and now they're paying for it in press like this.

  • Caleb Schmiege Fair enough. We definitely have a long way to go as Christians in our understanding of the whole issue. I often see people flying into the devil's traps of total tolerance, complete insensitivity, or hate. None of these are God-pleasing or acceptable. I was more frustrated by the comments that seemed to make light of the situation.

  • Gregory L. Jackson WELS is not honest about its problems. Two men were caught in the act at the seminary, years ago. Both were ordained. Both got married. That is just one example.
  • Jake Gawel (And in swoops Gregory L. Jackson with a speculative story containing names he can't or won't recall). That's as sound of proof as me saying I saw you doing 'the act' on some dude in your hometown just last night. It's true baby, I saw ya.
  • Gregory L. Jackson I have names, and so do others who know about this and many other examples. But WELS is perfect and therefore perfectly snide about anything that detracts from this perfection.
  • Jake Gawel Hey pal, no one in their right mind would say that. However, I have two things:

    1) I did totally see you in 'the act' with that dude.

    2) Until you are perfect or know the answer to being the best human/Christian/confessional moralist, why don't you just tone down your awesomeness and read your Bible.

    Here's a third, I guess:
Would you be willing (and this is a serious undertaking, so answer carefully) to take the rest of your life and write down everything you believe (we all know it's perfect and inerrant) and that's what us WELSers will use as sacred text? We need ya, man, so don't leave us hangin' over here!
  • Gregory L. Jackson Given the number of children abused by WELS teachers and pastors, you are in no position to play the smart-aleck, Jake.
  • Gregory L. Jackson Your public relations director, Joel Hochmuth, had hundreds of files of man-boy rape at WELS headquarters and at home.
  • Jake Gawel Again, no proprietary information reporting the abuses. Do I have to do this again? (I saw you abuse a kid last night.)

As for that guy - he got what he had coming to him, God-style. Were the churches records on abuse released to the public when the FBI took him down? You have knowledge of that stuff how?
  • Jake Gawel And I like that as a professional, confessional satirist, you are poo-pooing me. Hah! What's the saying about giving and not having the capacity to take...?
  • Gregory L. Jackson Jake, you are in the right sect.
  • Jim Schulz Get ready. It's coming. (And seriously, his lover looks like he could be his father. What up wit dat?)http://www.massresistance.org/.../par.../religion/index.html
  • Caleb Schmiege Mr. Jackson, the thing that troubles me the most is that it seems like you go looking for all the bad you can find. What has happened to your gospel motivation? Where is your passion for the lost? It pains me to see so much tearing down with very little building up. Do you take words and actions in the kindest possible way? The kindest possible way? You are in an influential position. I wish you would use it to point people to Christ.
  • Jake Gawel Mr. Greg (can I call you Greg?), I'm not looking to receive vindication from you about my spiritual or religious beliefs. I'm just asking for a little more journalistic integrity (read :: facts, names) and for you to put down what it is you believe in canonical form so we (WELS, ELS wrongdoers) can read it and see if there are massive errors we aren't already trying to fix.

Every business, non-profit, synod, church body, religion, government, family or friendship features mismanagement to some degree or of some nature. If you had the CLC-GLJS (Confessional Lutheran Church - Gregory L. Jackson Synod), I'm sure even there, in that bright spot against the dingy WELS backdrop, there would be negligence and mismanagement.
  • Gregory L. Jackson Warning people away from abusive sects that cover up for rape and murder and the abuse of children - that is positive. Provoking the sophomoric rage of smart-alecks is also worthwhile.
  • Jake Gawel Pardon me, Mr. Jackson (I am for real). Still waiting for the Journalism 101 level facts and names here. Can you send me (us) the documents you have become privy to? As a WELS member, I probably have a right to at least see those...

  • Jake Gawel Asking for fairness against nameless accusations isn't "trying to be smart" (although you might see it no other way, which again is ironic), it's simply asking for facts. I appreciate the names.

Now, with those in the limelight and me not having seen
my parole officer in years, can you give me some website where I can drum up these stories. Otherwise it might be like me saying..."So, Greg. You are gonna sit here on Facebook and tell me that you've never heard the tale of little Jimmy Zolinski and his abuse by the CLC-GLJS? It was so heinous his parents left the CLC-GLJS, but not before shooting their minister!"

A fact site or police report would be greatly appreciated.
  • Gregory L. Jackson Keep braying, Jake. I know you didn't take the time to check anything out. You never would. That would take integrity and courage.
  • Gregory L. Jackson Don't Matthew 18/8th Commandment me when people are murdered and the synod covers it up. Try reading the Large Catechism, 8th Commandment. It's in the Book of Concord.
  • Jake Gawel All I asked for was a little guidance getting started in my search. I'm willing to do the leg work if you're willing to point me down the path.

In regards to your implication of having courage and integrity and me not having any...I'm ok with you saying that about me (though those who actually know me might stand for my character), but please don't imply that you have integrity. Look at what you do (here or on your blog), how you carry it out. That takes neither of those characteristics - we both know it's the easy way and that's why you've taken it.

Now, uncovering and undermining parties which you believe to be personally responsible for terrible actions. That does take courage. I'll be willing to spot you on that if you help me get started down a path where I might one day be able to agree with you on the facts of those "crimes" (I only put crimes in quotations, because I haven't witnessed a police report on them, not because I wholeheartedly don't believe you that they took place).

  • Jake Gawel Oh sweet, sweet diversional tactics.

You could even start by stating what states each incident was reported in and I can see if they have a CCAP system like Wisconsin....

GJ - Does anyone wonder why people are leaving WELS in droves? They snark over murder and sexual abuse, pretending it is contrary to the Word of God to discuss their felonies.

They pulled their thread, which I anticipated.

Luther on public sins, such as when a murderer or abuser is convicted by his peers:

284] All this has been said regarding secret sins. But where the sin is quite public so that the judge and everybody know it, you can without any sin avoid him and let him go, because he has brought himself into disgrace, and you may also publicly testify concerning him. For when a matter is public in the light of day, there can be no slandering or false judging or testifying; as, when we now reprove the Pope with his doctrine, which is publicly set forth in books and proclaimed in all the world. For where the sin is public, the reproof also must be public, that every one may learn to guard against it.

GROTON, CT: Episcopal Bishop Fights Back at Characterization of his Role in Exodus of Bishop Seabury Church

By David W. Virtue
www.virtueonline.org
May 16, 2014

An article in The Day http://tinyurl.com/ml77gcd (May 9) "Homeless Bishop Seabury parish finds a place," characterized the bishop’s actions as one of “expelling” the congregation from its premises. The article went on to say that the church's legal battle dates back to seven years ago, when the parish opposed the Episcopal Church's ordination in 2003 of an openly gay bishop in New Hampshire and the election in 2006 of a woman as presiding bishop of the Episcopal Church of the U.S.A. The church has now found a satisfactory landing for the congregation, wrote Fr. Ron Gauss.

Upset with the claim that he tossed the congregation out on the street, Karin Hamilton, Canon for Mission Communication & Media for the diocese, wrote a letter to The Day newspaper saying that the Bishop was glad to learn the congregation had found a new location, but was upset at the language characterizing their departure from the church building.

“It is the practice of The Episcopal Church, affirmed in courts, that the Church retains the property in its name and each succeeding generation serves as stewards of it. Archdeacon Ron Gauss was aware of this well before he and a majority of the congregation voted to leave The Episcopal Church and join a group under the authority of a bishop from the Anglican Church of Nigeria.” This action resulted in a severance of the property from the diocese and the Episcopal Church.

Bishop Ian Douglas, who by then had succeeded Bishop Andrew Smith as Diocesan Bishop, said he met three times with Gauss and lay leaders of the congregation. Among other choices he offered them, after they had voted to leave The Episcopal Church, was an offer to lease the space to them, which they declined.

Confronted with this news, Fr. Gauss told VOL that this was not true. “He said that he (the bishop) couldn't rent to someone who wanted to replace him. He also he said he would most likely sue us for the name if we didn't change it. He wouldn't even talk to us about purchasing the property.

“The bishop said he would only let us stay if we left the Convocation of Anglicans in North America (CANA) and the Anglican Church in North America (ACNA). Then it would be a lease (rental) month by month. He also said if he got a purchaser, we would have to leave. I don't know what he means by a lease back that was never on the table.

“The Episcopal Church never appeared on the deeds of Bishop Seabury Church from 1865 to the dates of our departure from the building. If the state actually followed neutral principles as in SC or Texas, we would still be in the building. All of our court dealings were appeals.”

The Episcopal Presiding Bishop has sued bishops who said
she was doing wrong -
just the way Ski, Glende, and staff went to court against one of their members.

Fourth Sunday After Easter

Lord God, heavenly Father, who didst through Thy Son promise us Thy Holy Spirit, that He should convince the world of sin, of righteousness, and of judgment: We beseech Thee, enlighten our hearts, that we may confess our sins, through faith in Christ obtain everlasting righteousness, and in all our trials and temptations retain this consolation, that Christ is Lord over the devil and death, and all things, and that He will graciously deliver us out of all our afflictions, and make us forever partakers of eternal salvation, through the same, Thy Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one true God, world without end. Amen.

KJV James 1:16 Do not err, my beloved brethren. 17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. 18 Of his own will begat he us with the Word of Truth, that we should be a kind of firstfruits of his creatures. 19 Wherefore, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath: 20 For the wrath of man worketh not the righteousness of God. 21 Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and superfluity of naughtiness, and receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls.

KJV John 16:5 But now I go my way to him that sent me; and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou? 6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.

7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.

8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged. 12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now. 13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come. 14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you. 15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

The Foundational Sin - Unbelief

This lesson emphasizes the work of the Holy Spirit, which is the same as saying - This is how the Church will apply the Word, since the Spirit and Word are always together and never apart.

The Epistle and Gospel lessons teach the same efficacy of the Word, or to put it another way, the same power of the Spirit in the Word. We are born (converted, forgiven, renewed) by the Word of the Gospel. Jesus chose to do this through the spoken Word, and He taught His disciples to do the same.

Receive with meekness the engrafted Word, which is able to save your souls. In the New Testament, receive and believe are parallel words. The Bible avoids "making a decision for," which emphasizes human will and reason. Believing on and trust in are parallel to receiving with meekness. The Gospel is so powerful that people find their hearts suddenly converted, but some rebel against this. They are too proud, too righteous in their own deeds to need forgiveness. They are not meek. They do not receive the unwelcome message, even if they experience the joy of forgiveness for a moment.

They are like the people who tolerate guests but do not welcome them. The guests feel uncomfortable and leave early. Nothing obvious is said or done, but the message comes through. I see that happen in the culture of shunning.

Although James has a bad reputation (because the epistle is seldom read or studied) people forget that two of the most powerful Gospel passages are found there.

The engrafted Word is even more vivid - at least to rose growers, and apple orchard owners. Grafting is quite remarkable. God has created plants so they can be merged together while retaining two different characteristics. Orchard owners graft stock onto sturdy plants to give them the apples they want. They can even grow different types of apples on the same tree.

Almost all roses are grafted. The unkillable wild rose is the base of the plant. The hybrid tea or other variety is grafted onto the wild rose base. The base does better in the soil. It survives drought and cold better, but its blooms are sparse. The hybrid tea has beautiful flowers but a weaker base.

The graft union is easy to see. There are theories about where to place it, according to climate. My theory is - plenty of roses, plenty of water, plenty of earthworms, plenty of humus or mulch or compost or manure.

The Gospel Word is grafted onto us. We are the same base person, but the graft blooms with Gospel power and produces the fruits of the Spirit (Gal. 5) - love, joy, peace, gentleness, faithfulness, self-control, etc.

The divine plan was for Jesus to ascend so that mission would become global rather than local. The start was local, but the Christian Church soon reached from England to Lebanon, down to North Africa.

The work of the Spirit was to be felt in the preaching of the Resurrection witnesses, who were taught by the risen Lord. Then it would be experienced in the writing of the New Testament, preserving the work of the Evangelists.

8 And when He is come, He will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment: 9 Of sin, because they believe not on Me; 10 Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more; 11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.

This is the most important part of the New Testament, to understand the meaning of sin and forgiveness in Jesus' own words.

When the Holy Spirit is come, He will convict the world of sin...

This means that Jesus will explain in His own words what sin is. In other words, this is the touchstone of the entire New Testament. There are many places where something similar can be read, but this is the most basic, the central point that connects everything else.

For starters, let's define sin by current standards. Sin is:
  1. Disagreeing with the current dogma of the synod.
  2. Showing intolerance toward others, that is, having an opinion.
  3. Either taking illegal drugs or being against illegal drugs.
  4. Homosexuality or being against homosexuality.
  5. Hanging with the wrong people - like dissenters or known sinners.
  6. Not working hard enough at something.
  7. Not having enough self-esteem.
All those definitions are based upon doing or not doing, sometimes on thought itself. And people are constantly confused because the sides often switch. The very people who said they were against abortion are now promoters of the same, condemning anyone who holds their own former position.

9 Of sin, because they believe not on Me;

Here is the definition of sin - not believing on Jesus. The Holy Spirit will convict the world of that foundational sin - not believing on Jesus.

These verses are so plain that we see them without seeing. Why? We are used to sin as doing and thinking. I am not denying sin in either one, but they are not the foundational sins.

Jesus' most ferocious admonition was - You of little faith.

I used to resist the phrase "believing on," but the construction is far more common now in various contexts. When people do nothing but hate, it is called "hating on." When I was petting someone's little dog, the owner described it as "loving on my dawg." She said, "He doesn't mind you lovin' on him." The same woman said, "I spent the whole weekend lovin' on my niece."

To use other words - placing all our trust in Jesus, instead of dividing between trusting in ourselves and trusting in Him. The Gospel message constantly shows us that sin is not trusting completely in Him to:
  • Walk on water.
  • Still the storm.
  • Heal the sick.
  • Raise the dead.
  • Rise from death.
  • Ascend into heaven.
We have examples from Scripture where someone believed with utter trust that He could do one of those things. And the Bible says - He could do all of those things and more. And He can do that much for you, and more. Ephesians 3 - more than we can hope or even imagine.

Why are churches so weak today? They no longer teach or exemplify faith in Christ. Ministers avoid those areas where they have doubts. And those doubts and fears accumulate. "Studies show..." We need unbelievers to teach us about the Gospel and its growth? Jesus touched upon it more than once.

If our concept of sin is bad, making the foundation what we did, then our concept of forgiveness will be just as bad.

10 Of righteousness, because I go to My Father, and ye see Me no more...

This is easy to get wrong when the first part is missed. The Holy Spirit will convict the world of righteousness (forgiveness ) because Jesus in ascending to heaven proved His divine nature while retaining His human nature.

How can we brag of our own righteousness when Jesus has ascended to heaven? Clearly He is our righteousness. For that reason we have the righteousness of faith (to quote the Formula of Concord).

The Gospel - in teaching our complete, free, gracious forgiveness in Christ, through trust in Him - moves us to carry out God's will.

That is the Gospel graft at work. The Word grafted in us powers God-pleasing thoughts and deeds.

The Prince of this World is powerful. He teaches us to judge and condemn all the time. Human misery is called by constant getting even.

In contrast, Gospel grafting reminds us of our forgiveness and blessings, our many reasons to be thankful. In thankfulness we respond to others.

A believing, forgiven Christian is like a newly engaged young woman. Everything is changed. Someone loves her and wants to spend his life with her. It is not coincidence that Jesus calls the believing Church His bride. It is the same way. Through the Gospel we learn and re-learn that Jesus loves us and wants to spend eternity with us.

"No, I will NOT play Fascination."

Wikipedia:
The Boardwalk Hall Auditorium Organ is the pipe organ in the Main Auditorium of the Boardwalk Hall (formerly known as the Atlantic City Convention Hall) in Atlantic City, New Jersey, built by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company. It is the largest organ in the world, as measured by the number of pipes. The main auditorium is 487×288×137 feet (148×88×42 m)[1] with a floor area of 140,000 square feet (13,000 m2), giving a volume of 15,000,000 cubic feet (420,000 m3).[2] Consequently, the organ runs on much higher wind pressures than most organs in order to achieve a volume loud enough to fill the hall. The organ has four entries in The Guinness Book of World Records including "Largest pipe organ ever constructed", "Largest musical instrument ever constructed" and "Loudest musical instrument ever constructed", and holds several records in the organ world. It is one of only two organs in the world to have an open 64' rank,[3] and the only organ to have stops voiced on 100" of wind pressure.[3] Its console features seven keyboards, called manuals.[4]

---

History of the Pipe Organ:
Boardwalk Hall houses the most powerful musical instrument on the planet—a pipe organ that contains both the largest, and loudest organ pipes ever made. More powerful than a dozen orchestras, it can both whisper and thunder into the 5.5 million cubic feet of air space in the main hall.

After a silence of many decades, the organ has only recently began playing again thanks to the completion of the first part of an ambitious restoration project. Since much of the organ is made from wood (it took 225,000 board feet of lumber to construct), repairing water and humidity damage will be an important aspect of the work yet to be done as part of the 10 year, $16 million dollar project being led by the non-profit Historic Organ Restoration Committee (HORC).

Built between 1929 and 1932 by the Midmer-Losh Organ Company of Merrick, Long Island, N.Y., it was designed by Atlantic County State Senator—and noted organ architect—Emerson L. Richards. He specified almost every detail of the instrument, from its physical construction to the actual sound the various stops should make.

Weighing in at a staggering 150 tons, the instrument is original to the building and completely concealed behind the exquisite gilded grillwork around the main auditorium, the iconography of which depicts stylized sea creatures and plants. It is the first version of what we now think of as “surround-sound”.
The main console, located on the right (house) side of the proscenium arch is the largest ever constructed, the only to ever have seven manual keyboards in addition to the pedal keyboard and 1,235 stop tablets to control the 33,112 pipes.

The Midmer-Losh organ has 449 ranks of pipes in addition to 23 actual orchestral percussion instruments, sounded by pneumatically controlled, weighted mallets. Wind to power the organ is powered by eight blowers, totaling 633 H.P. which generate 36,400 CFM at pressures in excess of 100”—more than double that used in any other organ! The sound colors available in this instrument can be heard nowhere else. These include 10 stops voiced on 50”of wind, and four on 100”. Of these later, the Grand Ophicleide is the most powerful. As The Guinness Book of World Records describes it, it has a volume "six times louder than the loudest locomotive whistle"! Other notable features include ten 32-foot stops and a full-length 64-foot—one of only two ever constructed, and also the largest in the world.

The Adrian Phillips Ballroom is also equipped with a magnificent pipe organ, installed behind the grillwork on either side of the proscenium arch. The console is located in the musician’s balcony (house right). Originally designed to provide the soundtrack for silent movies, the instrument can provide a wide variety of musical styles and genres and can conjure up every imaginable effect from the singing of birds to an entire symphony orchestra. There are 55 ranks of pipes in this instrument controlled from a four-manual console.
Specialty tours giving an extremely detailed history and guided look behind the scenes of some of the normally closed sections of Boardwalk Hall’s pipe organs are available on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month. An optional donation ($20 is suggested) is requested by the docents for these tours to benefit the ongoing work of the Historic Organ Restoration Committee (H.O.R.C.). Tour length is 2 hours. Reservations are suggested but not required. For more information, please contact Steven Ball atsball@accenter.com or 609-348-7499.

Beginning in May of 2014, free concerts will be presented on the Midmer-Losh pipe organ in the main hall Monday-Friday at 12:00 noon, followed by a chance to meet the organist of the hall Dr. Steven Ball and take a free guided ½ hour organ tour. No reservation is necessary for either the concerts or tours.
Pay attention to our upcoming events page for more information regarding programs and fundraising events to support the organs of Historic Boardwalk Hall.

Introduction

The organ in Main Auditorium of Boardwalk Hall (formerly Convention Hall) was built by the Midmer-Losh Co., of Merrick, Long Island, New York. Work on the instrument, opus 5550, started in May of 1929 and was completed in December, 1932. The specifications were drawn-up by Emerson L. Richards (1884–1963), a native of Atlantic City and State Senator for Atlantic County. Although politics was his profession, pipe organs were his passion and pre-occupation. He described himself as an "Organ Architect" and, over the years, had some 80 articles published in organ journals. As a result of his design ideas and the practical demonstrations thereof, his influence extended far beyond Atlantic City, and he was dubbed "the Commander-in-Chief of the American Revolution in Organ Building".

The Main Auditorium is a vast space, measuring 488 feet long, 288 feet wide, and 137 feet high. To fill the place with sound, Richards designed an organ with some mind-boggling and previously unheard of specifications. There are ten 32-foot ranks, a full-length 64-foot (one of only two in the world – see Note 1, at the end of this page), four voices on 100-inch wind (a pressure not employed in any other organ) and 10 on 50 inches. With a total 33,116 pipes (see Note 2), the organ is the largest (and loudest!) musical instrument on Earth.

The pipes are accommodated in eight chambers arranged in opposite pairs on the left and right sides of the auditorium – there being four chambers in the stage area and four near the center of the room. The simplified diagram (not to scale), below, shows the contents of the chambers and gives an idea their relative locations.

Denials - And Naturally - The Eighth Commandment Cited Twice While Attacking My Motives

On Zak's Coming Out

As expected, I noticed your posts about Zak Stowe's coming out on facebook. It was expected, but that's not why a fair amount of us (Zak's friends) are upset. We're more upset that you literally are just making things up about him.

Now, I've seen a few times that you've had the 8th commandment thrown against you in too many situations. And in many cases I agree, they're misused. Hell, as a student at MLC I agree with a lot of the criticisms of WELS and MLC that are put forth and think there needs to be change, so I'm not saying this out of a need to defend holy mother synod or anything. But this is a true case of 8th commandment abuse.

"The college wanted him to stay in the closet, long after graduation, to make them look good."

That *literally* is just made up, there is no truth to it, you just made it up to make WELS look bad. I'm good friends with Zak, I've known he's gay for awhile, talked with him during the Inherit The Wind debacle and subsequent visits he's had with professors.

That. Never. Happened. They didn't know, they had no clue, there was no conspiracy, they never told him to stay in a closet, never knew he was gay. If you wanna (sic) criticize MLC and the WELS, use actual criticisms, don't make stuff up like this. That *is* an abuse of the 8th commandment, and you of all people should know that.

Zak had no deal with the college, ever. He graduated with a degree in educational studies because he couldn't student teach for completely different reasons unrelated to his being gay, that was never known by the school. Don't lie.

In Christ,
-K

GJ - The message above arrived by email, a few minutes after an obscene, lewd, nasty email - from Zak Stowe. Facebook contacts confirm that it came from Zak, since he reposted it on his own Facebook page - https://www.facebook.com/zak.stowe?fref=ts

Among other things, Zak bragged about posting photos of himself on a gay porn site. Did he use Martin Luther College's equipment and bandwidth? One year the seniors had a contest about who could get past the porn-blocking filter at MLC.

Typical WELS - they want to debate the rumor and start making personal attacks. Sorry, but I can only report rumors. That is factual reporting.

Half the student body knows about the deal Zak made with MLC. He just posted that he has been lying for the last 12 years. Why not a few more lies?

According to the two emails today, Schone is oblivious. Of course, WELS has a cover story for every scandal.

WELS leaders know nothing and remember even less, even if they are eye-witnesses. Look at the stars of Party in the MLC. They deliberately copied every move of a gay video and publicly proclaimed their innocence about all that. Why, they just climbed off the manure wagon to go to college. They only knew about farm animals - and thus they were fooled until someone Googled "gay" after reading Ichabod. No wonder one of them is going to work with a DP - he has the lame excuses down pat.

I am not sure why today's authors are so angry with me. Zak Stowe has the publicity he wanted -842 views already. He posted his original on Facebook for everyone to see. I published his message verbatim. I had no trouble believing it was from a Martin Luther College graduate -

I want to leave MLC with this message to those who are scared to except (sic) themselves...

Nothing verifies WELSian authorship faster than bad spelling and worse grammar.

Naturally - everything is my fault.

The Mighty Wurlitzer Organ - And Theater Organs. The Hammond Tone Wheel and Leslie Speaker

I went to some special showings of silent movies in our area, many years ago. The theater organ was essential for the original showings.

Some of us remember the soaps on TV having organ background music. The dramatic chord is so well known that I have it on a little sound machine I use in teaching undergraduates.

Hammond organs seem to have 100 different (nearly identical) sounds. But they last forever and are unkillable as an instrument. Many electronic organs have promised everything but they have not lasted long.

This history is fun and reveals hows the Hammond Company succeeded, went bankrupt, and came back as a unit of Suzuki.

Nothing can equal a pipe organ.

I only played classical music and hymns at home when Little Ichabod was growing up. Whenever "Ride of the Valkyries" came on the stereo, I flew him around the room, doing dips and swoops and singing along.

Not Just a Thunderstorm - Rain on a Garden Produces Effects, Always

$

Yesterday we had a sod-soaker. The rose garden was washed, drenched, and given more life.

The first effect of rain is the shower of nitrogen compounds, which spur growth and green up everything. Farmers say, "Irrigation keeps plants alive. Rain makes them grow."

The rain also washes off all the plants. One of the best ways to keep plants healthy is to wash them. That clears off bugs and dust.

I covered a lot of sod with with newsprint and mulch, so the rain fueled the decomposition of the sod into rich humus. I once made a compost pit out of sod from the front yard. That part of the backyard was so rich in humus that it was always jelly-like when I walked on it. Likewise, the prairie soil of Moline was known for being so rich that the ground shivered when people jumped out of their wagons and landed on it.

When I wanted to grow parsley, the richest place in the yard was best for it - and parsley grew abundantly, attracting swallowtail butterflies, who insist on parsley. Years ago, the owner of the Parsley Patch ran out of parsley, so she asked to harvest mine. Needless to say, I gloated about bailing out the professional herbalist with my sod-created parsley patch.

Ideal soil creatures love rain, darkness, and food from recycling. The covered sod, newsprint, and mulch all provide food - and a blanket to shade the sun, a wet blanket to keep the moisture in and the roots of the roses cool.

Sod is a great boost for the garden because the richest top soil is held together with grass roots. When that layer decomposes and shrinks, it produces that humus-rich soil, the Jello of growth and health.

Meanwhile, the rain vastly expands the soil population. Studies have shown that a high population of creatures in the soil will produce the best results. There are many creatures that contribute to soil productivity, from springtails to sowbugs to earthworms, and they all crave moisture and darkness. The earthworms that arrived from the worm farm are normally 50% their size from dehydration on the journey. Rain fattens them up and restarts their life cycle of eating, burrowing, manuring, and laying eggs. They even provide another burst of nitrogen when they die, since earthworms are all muscle and moisture.

As they always said in sales, "Front-end activity always leads to results." By building up the soil, I build up the roses. The bare-root roses and the nursery roses (in paper buckets) can only thrive if their roots grow into the soil and the delicate root hairs have a banquet to serve to the plant above. That banquet consists of usable minerals and moisture. Clay soil is loaded with minerals but they need to be unlocked to reach the plant. As I understand it, decomposition and the soil creatures accomplish this. They also open up the clay for the rapid growth of roots.

Earthworms sweeten soil with their calcium-producing glands, and that sweeter soil is better for most plants and for releasing minerals in the soil for plant use.

Several factors keep me from osterizing the soil, although my neighbor offered up his giant soil mixer. One is the possibility of hitting utilities and running up a fat liability for the repairs. Even when flags are down, that happens, as it did at our local college, when the natural gas line was cut during remodeling.

Another reason - rototilling the soil is a crime against nature, upsetting the natural process of soil renewal. As one Indian said about the effect of the plow, "Soil upside-down." In this case - soil like whipped cream, without the flavor.

http://blogs.oregonstate.edu/soilbiota/
Admit it - you do not know what a springtail is.
Check out the link for some close-ups.

Finally, I resist it because soil creatures and plants do the work. One expert argued that no one needs to stir or rototill ingredients into the soil. The earthworms will rise to the occasion, bring the organic matter down into the root-layer, and thoroughly mix it, creating tunnels for rain and channels for rainwater. Call me lazy, but I like that mulch better.

Results - I learned from a Church Growth seminar to count the results. Yesterday, after plenty of pruning and cutting for the altar flowers, I saw 50 rose blooms on the plants from the nursery. The bare-root roses have leafed out and greened up. They will soon be producing buds.

My neighbor's daughter said she loved roses but did not like weeding them. I said, "No weeding with mulch." The rose plants are set off by the black mulch. I have one lonely weed that worked its way up through the newsprint and wooden mulch. A toddler could pull that weed out.

That was my other concession to laziness. I read the Ruth Stout book on mulching and decided that mulching was really composting on the spot, eliminating back-breaking wheelbarrow trips and weeding at the same time.

http://www.wunderground.com/blog/gardencoach/giving-soil-the-respect-it-deserves
This link explains soil creatures.
But wait - I have a large compost pile, consisting of leaves from my many maple trees. I am loathe to remove organic material from the yard, so I am letting the leaves process above ground for future projects. I almost used them this year, but I measured my lack of a wheelbarrow, my lack of ambition, and my potential trek from the pile in the backyard to the rose plantation in the front yard. Bags of mulch won that round.

Nevertheless, the snow and rain have changed the pile, reducing it to 25% of the original mass of leaves. My helper, who mows and rakes, said, "I can't fit anymore in." I said, "You will soon." The chicken-wire cage was soon half-full again. The compost pile is roughly 5' by 7' by 5' - a lot of leaves. Ironically, I am feeding my neighbor's garden, which is next to it, across the fence-line. Graduates of the Wormhaven Compost Pile can easily migrate into his garden.

The rain and snow always have an effect. We have too many city-slickers in the pulpit and not enough gardeners and farmers. If they knew more about Creation, they would trust the efficacy of the Word, the inevitable growth that comes from the Word. Below are three promises about the Holy Spirit at work in the Word.

  • The Word will never return void.
  • The Word will always accomplish God's will.
  • The Word will prosper God's intentions.

Isaiah 55:7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the Lord, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.

8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the Lord.

9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:

11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.

12 For ye shall go out with joy, and be led forth with peace: the mountains and the hills shall break forth before you into singing, and all the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

13 Instead of the thorn shall come up the fir tree, and instead of the brier shall come up the myrtle tree: and it shall be to the Lord for a name, for an everlasting sign that shall not be cut off.

Missouri, WELS, and the Little Sect on the Prairie should have sent their leaders into the garden instead of Fuller Seminary. Wagner admitted, his stupid Church Growth Principles do not work.

Martin Luther College and WELS Damage Control

Zak Stowe just graduated from Martin Luther College, WELS,
while he was posting on a gay porn site:
"I have some fun pictures on Grindr. All you had to do was message me.
(Grindr is that app that fags use to find [omitted]."

Email to me, copied on his Facebook account.

I am trying to parse the latest damage control operation by WELS:
1. Lie about the obvious facts.
2. Blame and attack me while citing the Eighth Commandment.

Total page-views are now over 1,000 - and 300 is normally the peak of a big story. This one shows no sign of abating.

Mrs. Ichabod said, "How do you know about all this stuff?" I gave her a detailed answer, which boils down to this:

  • Ichabod is the only safe outlet in WELS and Missouri.
  • The micro-minis are already in a death-spiral so no one cares about them.
  • If someone dares to address an issue, it is the first step in being ousted.

SP Mark Schroeder's "Write a letter" advice is useless, since he does not even answer certified letters. By the way, that is the only way to send one. Make sure a signed receipt comes back, so the official has a chance to lie again, as Schroeder did. He claimed, "I never got your letter." I kept the signed receipt and copied it on Ichabod. In fact, no one who got that letter responded, except in a cowardly and sniveling way through an ELCA/Seminex pastor.

When WELS starts lying, witnesses know better.

MLC's Schone is not a fabulous dresser.
Here are some lies and the facts that refute them.

1. No one knew Zak Stowe was gay.
Answer - He had a group of friends at MLC and elsewhere. They knew. How could this not get around, especially on the campus of a tiny sect college where everyone is related? One of his FB friends is Ski. Did Ski know?

2. Zak was not denied student teaching.
Answer - He was, and for good reason.

3. No deal was made for Zak to remain silent, in order to get his degree.
Answer - Half the college is laughing about this claim. They knew about the arrangement. The real question remains - why is the other half completely out of the loop? Between Twitter and texting, college students know everything in a few seconds, whether rumor or fact. Secondly, Zak's post immediately after graduation looks like a response, going back on a deal.

4. "You just made it up to make WELS look bad."
Answer - I did not force Zak to post what he did on his Facebook account. I did not assume the email I got was from Zak, but he confirmed it by posting it on his FB page - as his friends have told me. WELS looks bad for lying again, for covering up their utter lack of direction and integrity.

The heated denials (like student teaching) only underline the facts. I have been impressed by WELS' ability to scare away and silence sources. Notice that there is no outlet allowed in WELS. Intrepid Lutherans has become a link to ELDONA. An entire group of activists cannot get a post published.

WELS denies justification by faith - the Gospel -
and embraces every dogma of the mainline Leftists.
Can corruption inherit incorruption?

It is not libel or slander to quote someone verbatim when I have the copy of the email and its particulars. That is especially true when the same email is foolishly posted on the gentleman's Facebook account for all his friends to see.

Normal people would see slander in Zak's email to me. I see it as the sign of a troubled person who never got the spiritual guidance he needed in WELS.

From "K" - who is anonymous.

On your latest blog post, I understand you copied the quote from his email, but do at lease correct this part

"while he was posting on a gay porn site:"

He was clearly being inflammatory there to make his point, Grindr isn't actually a porn site, it's just a dating app like any other dating app. While I won't question whether or not you can say the rest, I hope you can at least see that that isn't fair.

GJ - I did not post the entire email because it was lewd, obscene, and disgusting. If the readers saw the entire email, they would agree that the point of the email was insulting, slanderous, and unbecoming a recent graduate of a Christian college.

Perhaps dating via a gay website is normal in WELS, but I doubt it.

Oh dear, dead, Ichabod,

I must ask you to remove a certain and recent screen capture that involves Zak's recent Facebook escapades. You recently took a screen capture that involved the names of a few who had posted comments. My name was in that list. I respectfully ask you to take down that image or I will have to consider legal action. The nature of your blog is defamatory and having my name on it may cause damage to my reputation, much in the same way it has to Zak's.

Now, before you go and post my email as an example of a 'WELS cover-up technique', let me halt you right there. I am NOT WELS, I am actually an ex-WELS. I once attended MLC, the reason I know Zak and others on that thread, and left to pursue bigger and brighter things.

Quite frankly, I don't care what the synod does now. However, I will not stand for my comments to be taken and twisted as pro-WELS comments that seek to cover up your so-called conspiracy. I care for the well-being of my friens Zak. This is the only reason I am furious over your blog. Berate WELS all you want; do not harm my friend's reputation any further.

Oh, did you get that? I. AM. NOT. WELS. Do not twist my words to fit your agenda. If you do, the fallacies will become ever so evident to me in all of your posts.

To be honest, Ichabod, I used to admire your attacks on WELS. However, you have disgusted me due to the huge and insurmountable recent lies in your work.

Good Day.

GJ - Posting in a Facebook wall is publishing - as in public. You chose to post your words in public, and now they are even more public - verbatim.

If you want to apologize, Caitlyn, feel free to send another email. Since you are visiting your attorney soon, I suggest you study the pornographic origin and meaning of "scumbag." You might find yourself out of thousands of dollars while he informs you that you are very much in the wrong and I am within my rights in quoting your public pronouncements.

Not for Little Children - Social Media

Someone observed that students today cannot argue a point - they only quarrel. The main premise seems to be, "You have upset me; now you must make me feel good again - or else."

One cause is the pursuit of the student population. Every school is recruiting to obtain the student loan money to keep the school funded. They fear the loss of income from students, who can easily flit to another school, one where the new recruitment officer will say, "Poor baby. They did that to you? How unfair."

One advantage of Boomers was this - we were surplus, 25% of the population. Schools could be selective. Getting rid of students was an imperative. Illinois trains put extra passenger cars on after mid-terms, to take all the students home after they flunked out. But that was long ago.  Boomers had to spell correctly, use the Queen's English, and form complete sentences. Now all the colleges have remedial classes so the students do not have to flunk out merely because they are illiterate.

Social Media Verities - Not Grasped by Everyone
The social media giants are Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Blogger, YouTube, Pinterest, Google Plus, email,  and many more.

The key point is - They all show up when doing a Google search. One cannot use them and remain anonymous. LinkedIn provides an autobiography and photo. YouTube and FB - videos.

The forgotten point - They never go away. They exist on servers. They are copied onto hard drives. They remain in archives.

Still unknown to most - Their security settings mean nothing to big entities. The whole point of big data is to find the market and sell to it. FB is for geezers; Instagram is for youth. The ladies love Pinterest.

Headlines, captions, and photos enter Google and stay there. WELS/ELS complaints come back to me - I seem to own most topics they look up on Google, whether they are posts or photos or both. If someone has 12,000 posts, that can happen. Catch up whenever you want.

Easy to copy, easy to find - Plagiarism in college continues at a brisk rate, and I uncover it just as fast. Forgotten is this fact: The essay they found so easily with Google is just as easy to identify with Google. I am much better at Google than college kids, who were teething when I began using the tool daily.

College tantrums, photos at a drunken party, and video stupidities are no longer confined to one school, where they can be forgotten. The students themselves publish them on blogs, YouTube, Twitter, even Facebook. A few smart-alecs have picked fights with this blog, only to realize that their inanities are part of the search when they look for a job.

Corporations routinely do these searches and often eliminate people as prospects when the vampire, Nazi, drug-taking, and alcoholic images show up. Lame excuses sound pretty hollow when they are still in print (or worse - in Google) a few years later.

One young man repented as he faced the job market. He asked that I take down posts that included his name or photo. He was excruciatingly polite, which is rare today. I was happy to remove them all. At the time he was eager to send me messages, and seeing them seemed to energize him to write even more. I began hearing from his college friends, who were stunned by his attitude.

Publishing the truth is not slander, even if makes you upset. The best defense against the charge of slander is - "It's true." If someone says, "This is what I do," then it is not slander to say, "This is what you just claimed you do." To threaten a lawsuit based on your own words is rather silly.

Citing the Eighth Commandment is so routine for WELS/ELS slanderers that I created a graphic just for that. A friend of mine laughs every time he sees it - and he sees it often. I have numerous cry-baby graphics too. If people are laughing at you right now, they might have a reason for it.

Staged tantrums are good for blog page-views. When I first took computer classes in the late 1990s, I was so appalled by student behavior that I wondered about ever teaching them. I saw girls and boys have fits because they walked into a scheduled quiz, forgetting the date, and challenged the teacher about it. "Was this on the syllabus?" Quiet answer - "Yes." Books were slammed on the desk and floor.

When students cry, threaten, snivel, and tweet their outrage, interest in the blog soars among those collegians who normally stick to sports scores and celebrity tweets. The Party in the MLC lobby got students at Martin Luther College, Bethany Lutheran College, and Wisconsin Lutheran College involved in reading Ichabod. MLC teachers warned students against Ichabod, denied warning them, and planned things so they could not be published on Ichabod (denying that fact, of course).

Funny episode at WLC. They were shocked that I had a copy of the lying student editorial defending Party in the MLC. How did I know that? Who invented the Internet - not the Millennials! Uploading to YouTube does not make one a computer expert.

At the moment, 1560 page views show up on the combined posts about one person's Martin Luther College graduation. I wonder if the selective outrage of the college students could be directed toward reconsidering what they are defending.

Martin Luther College Students and Bethany Lutheran College Students - A Stern Warning from Mark Schroeder and Joel Hochmuth

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Aug. 21, 2009 Contact: Joel Hochmuth Director of Communications Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod joel.hochmuth@wels.net

WELS president expresses regret at ELCA decision on gay clergy
Milwaukee, Wis.—Rev. Mark Schroeder, president of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS), is expressing regret at the vote of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) convention regarding homosexual clergy. Friday, delegates approved a resolution committing the church to find a way for “people in such publicly accountable, lifelong, monogamous, same-gender relationships” to serve as professional leaders of the church.

“To view same-sex relationships as acceptable to God is to place cultural viewpoint and human opinions above the clear Word of God,” says Schroeder. “The Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod, along with The Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, and other smaller Lutheran synods, maintains and upholds the clear teaching of the Bible that homosexuality is not in keeping with God’s design and is sinful in God’s eyes.”

At the same time, Schroeder says WELS congregations stand ready to support those struggling with same-sex attractions. “As with any sin, it is the church’s responsibility to show love and compassion to sinners, not by condoning or justifying the sin, but by calling the sinner to repent and by assuring the sinner that there is full forgiveness in Jesus Christ,” Schroeder says.

WELS, with about 390,000 members and nearly 1,300 congregations nationwide, is the third largest Lutheran church body in the United States. In Wisconsin alone, there are more than 201,000 members and 417 congregations. “It’s unfortunate that many headlines have referred to the recent decisions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America as something ‘Lutherans’ have decided,” Schroeder says. “In fact, the ELCA is only one of many Lutheran denominations. We are saddened that a group with the name Lutheran would take another decisive step away from the clear teaching of the Bible, which was the foundation of the Lutheran Reformation.”

Schroeder says that WELS is firmly committed to upholding God’s design for marriage as outlined in Scripture—a design intended for one man and one woman. “We believe, and the Bible teaches, that God designed this relationship to be a blessing for men and women and for society. Any departure from what God himself has designed does two things: it denies the clear teachings of Scriptures and it undermines God’s desire that the man/woman relationship in marriage be a blessing.”

Pipe Organs and Creation

Pastor Jackson,
I really enjoyed the post about the theatre organs. I visited theatreorgans.com where they had a very good explanation of the venerable Hammond B3 organ. When reading about how the draw bars created the many different sounds - flute, oboe, clarinet, etc., it was expressed in terms of the shape of the waveform. Since I know so little about musical instruments, I had always assumed that most instruments produced something close to pure sine waves.

The wind instruments actually generate square waves, triangular waves, sawtooth or any number of other types or possibly, some combinations. The explanation of the tone wheels, draw bars and the generation of odd harmonics struck a chord with me (pardon the bad pun). In engineering parlance, that is called Fourier Analysis. The idea is that any waveform that is not a pure sine wave can be expressed mathematically in terms of a progression of sine waves and their multiples, or harmonics.

I often marvel at this allegedly old technology and the craftsmanship involved in making it. I understand that a harpsichord is more like a guitar where strings are plucked rather than an acoustic piano where the strings are hit with hammers. Yet the sound of the harpsichord is so unique.

I do not often engage in complicated arguments with atheists,  agnostics, and evolutionists. The wonders of creation are so numerous that they cannot be counted. When you post on Ichabod what the soil creatures do to make the soil rich, I cannot help but be awed by this process.

Another part of the creation are the laws of physical science. I have spent my entire working life dealing with this in some way or another. Yet, many do not see our Creator's hand in the numerous physics and engineering books that can only express that which was created in such an orderly and consistent manner.

In Christ,
Randall Schultz

In music we try to reproduce the singing of birds - the Goldfinch Concerto for flute is wonderful to hear, over and over.

In architecture we try to copy the grand design of the Creator.

The cooperation of all the elements of nature is an on-going spectacle. Planting 16 roses and covering the ground with mulch seems to have drawn more songbirds to the yard.

The mulch itself is Hungarian goulash for birds. Anything can be moving under the fragments of wood and paper. I was amused to find one patch of newsprint obviously torn up by a beak. Moisture plus rotting organic matter means that something alive will be just under that layer, or just under one fragment of it.

Starlings are known for strolling along the ground and spotting a creature to eat. They also devour weed seeds. Grackles seem to dig deeper for grubs. When I find a fat, white grub while digging, I put it on a stump to be seen and eaten.

A bird-friendly yard attracts an appreciative crowd that coos and twitters when I come out to feed them or work on the plants.

Humans try to keep treasure to themselves, although they do talk loudly about good eating places. Birds tweet to their flocks that they found something. The more food, the louder the chatter, the more that arrive. The social birds - like sparrows, starlings, and doves - will gather in noisy flocks. They do not eat everything, but leave some for others.

This cat found some pollen.

Hey Greg,

How come I didn’t hear about this on Ichabod?

Found it when I went to Zak’s FB page.

Bizarre!

https://www.facebook.com/groups/WELS.GLBTQA/

There’s not much on Zak’s page – not that I saw, anyway.

But you should be able to go the WELS GLBTQ&A page as it is “open.”

Some of the last names among the members are quite interesting.

Weird!

GJ - I try not to keep up with these groups. Enough comes over the transom already, without looking for it. Your email is a good example.

Nothing was done about the mattress room incident at Mequon. Nothing was done about Party in the MLC- except to reward all the participating plagiarists.

The train has left the station. Your pal Mark Schroeder makes Obama look strong and decisive.

There are not any hills left to die on - in WELS, LCMS, or the Little Sect on the Prairie. I am just writing the obituaries.

Schone Shut Down Inherit the Wind and Student Blogs. What about the WELS GLBTQA Facebook Page?

MLC's Jeff Schone models "What Not To Wear at a WELS Convention."
https://www.facebook.com/groups/WELS.GLBTQA/permalink/447899308566974/

MLC Vice President of Student Life Jeffrey Schone told the New Ulm Journal that, since the school trains WELS ministers, the college’s administration had a legitimate interest in expressing “concern” about its students being associated with the play. The denomination is committed to an absolutely literal interpretation of Genesis and the creation story, so even the slightest involvement of MLC students with a play that suggests the crazy notion that evolution is real might taint the college’s brand:
Schone said MLC was concerned about making it absolutely clear to its students, WELS members and the public about its beliefs and teachings on creationism. He said he recognizes the subtext of the play, but feels it is unfairly critical of creationism and that most people would only see the criticism.
“We felt it was not compatible with what [the school] teaches the Bible says about the universe and the world,” said Schone. “This is a ministerial school. People employing our students need confidence about their views.”
Zach Stowe said that he believes in creationism, but was disappointed that MLC involved itself in a community theater production.
He said he believes open discussion about the topic is essential to proving its validity.
“The play does not just say evolution is right. It treats Christians with respect. The entire point of the play is both sides need open, free discussions,” said Stowe. “But, I don’t have any negative feelings about it. Everyone acted how their conscience directed them in this situation. I can respect it.”
And he’d darn well better respect it if he knows what’s good for him.
Interviewed during a 1996 Broadway revival of the Inherit the Wind, Jerome Lawrence said that he and co-author Robert E Lee
“used the teaching of evolution as a parable, a metaphor for any kind of mind control … It’s not about science versus religion. It’s about the right to think.”
And now the good people of New Ulm, Minnesota, have learned a valuable lesson about the value of freedom of thought.

GJ - Did Jeff Schone make a deal with Zak Stowe? Some want to debate that. Schone has no trouble kicking students out of MLC for the slightest pretext. That strikes me as federal student loan fraud, putting teens into debt, then making that debt worthless by expelling them for thought-crimes. That may be why Schone withheld the avenging arm of the WELS Law.
The real question concerns the vast gulf between traditional Christianity and the goals of this inter-campus (Martin Luther College/Bethany Lutheran College) group. Wisconsin Lutheran College carries water for the MLC Left as well, so the paradox remains.
WELS and the Little Sect on the Prairie hold themselves far above the grungy tattooed ELCA rads, but the WELS/ELS have their own lobby - which also seems to be getting its way. The WELS/ELS Facebook page offers a glimpse.

We need more anonymous Confessional Lutherans - the ones who post messages and send long sanctimonious emails without using their real names.

If enough of these people lay low and offer their insights in stealth mode, everything will turn out just fine.

The people who cannot stand up for justification by faith (while deceitfully using that term) will lie down for anything.

So - Bottoms Up! Confessional Lutherans. Judgement Day is here.

Sunflower Garden Planted

My sunflower patch will not match the one above.

Freed PDF - The Wormhaven Gardening Book.

We dug a shallow trench on the sunny side of the house, which was going to host more roses. I used mushroom compost on top to amend the soil, then covered the row with wood mulch. Accuweather predicted rain, so I watered the row. No rain fell.

Mrs. Ichabod correctly observed that roses should be in the front where she could enjoy them, not hidden on the side of the house with no windows.

Dreaming - Sunflowers - Corn
Dreaming is an important part of gardening. No muscles are strained. No dollars are spent.

I decided the putative rose garden extension would make a good sunflower patch. I had just enough seed for a row along that side of the house. Most plants do not like to bake in the sun, but corn and sunflowers use sun power more effectively and unreservedly than any other plants. They convert solar energy into nutrition too.Sunflower seeds are packed with nutrition and oil.

Americans burn up corn alcohol so they can drive to the store to pick up Fritos.

That part of the yard is ideal for corn, since it is great for sunflowers. However, corn in the front yard seems
extreme. The alternative is the area near the compost pile.

Ideal Compost Production
Compost needs soil, dampness, shade, and organic material.

High nitrogen materials like green grass and rabbit manure will heat up the compost and break it down faster. That happens because the bacteria that likes the nitrogen heats up the pile of leaves, grass, soil, and manure. A pile of sod turned upside down will shrink and warm up as it composts. High nitrogen materials will grow so hot that "steam" will rise up from the pile.

Large heaps of wood and coal of will catch fire - one of the theories behind the extreme speed of the Titanic, by the way. The ship was racing to burn up coal because the Titanic had one of those common coal-bin fires. They doused that fire by sinking.

Soil helps because a soil floor or layers of soil will provide bacteria and soil creatures to decompose the organic matter. Manure (not dog or cat, because of transferring disease to humans) is good for bacteria and organic compounds. Cow manure is cool (low-nitrogen). Chicken and rabbit manures are hot (high-nitrogen).

Since you asked - my grandfather earned an agriculture degree at the University of Illinois.

Shaken, not stirred.

Decomposition is increased by aeration and by heat. Some people stir or mix their compost. There is even a compost shaker, seen above, being dedicated at Lutheran School of Theology, Chicago, ELCA. LSTC may go bankrupt, but they still have their compost turning drums. Amen? Amen!

The big guys stay out of the way when the compost is heating up. The bugs and finally the earthworms arrive to feast on all the good stuff inside compost. The bugs are not pests, but the very creatures God designed to take care of garbage and manure, reducing it back to an aromatic soil-friendly amendment.

Soil is a great antibiotic. In fact, some of the antibiotics we taken for infections come from the soil itself. If the compost smells like a sack of garbage or a pile of manure (ammonia), not enough soil is layered in or on top.

Organic gardeners do not put meat in compost, because that attracts the wrong critters. Raw meat would add a lot of nitrogen. That nitrogen can come from manure - and will definitely come from the tragic deaths of thousands of earthworms as they complete their life-cycles in that earthly paradise.

Springtails are tiny helpers in reducing organic material.
Alas, they are preyed upon, and their predators are also preyed upon.

Why Is Compost Good?
Compost is loaded with live earthworms - and more importantly - their egg cases. The egg cases survive a long time. So using compost means distributing the progeny of those venal earthworms.

Since earthworms multiply in rich soil, distributing compost will enhance the lifestyles of those earthworms, who constantly improve, plow, manure, aerate, and rain-enhance the soil. A hard rain will run off baked clay soil, but soil softened and tunneled by earthworms will soak in the rain.

Earthworms are a synecdoche - a part for the whole. Gardeners judge soil by the number of earthworms because that means all their soil-buddies are hard at work as well. Some are 1/25,000th of an inch long, so they are difficult to see. Others, like the springtails, are more abundant than all the humans on earth put together, but the hexapods do their work without seeking or receiving recognition for it.

The soil is healthy when it contains a lot of humus, and compost is very rich in humus. Soil without humus is either a brick for the kiln or sand for the sandbox. Sandy soil will humus added will grow a lot. Clay will be even more productive. God planned it this way at Creation.

Humus is jelly-like, which means super-rich soil will feel jello-like when walked on. Rich soil will also stay warmer and hold moisture better.

Corn and Spinach in the Future
I can prepare the future corn patch in the fall. I will do that by spreading out compost and mulch to kill off the turf, making it easy to turn over in the spring (I hope). It will also be rich in earthworms and humus.

I can open up the compost pile (chicken wire in a circle) and spread it out.

Another area will be reserved for fall spinach planting. The spinach plant is very hardy in cold and sad in hot weather. The answer is to start spinach in the fall, cover it with leaves when frost approaches. The leaves can be pulled away in the very early spring. When the spring rains arrive and the bugs have not yet hatched, spinach will grow up and be crunchy with moisture.
