How odd that these individuals who make up the anti-objective justification clique once sat in the same seminary classrooms, heard the same lectures, and read and studied the same Scriptures and confessional writings as their former colleagues, and yet never raised any objection to the teaching of objective justification at that point in time. Surely they had an obligation to voice any concerns they might have had before accepting a call to be a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus. [GJ - Some people continue to study and grow, unlike the LQ denizens, who keep repeating their seminary dogmatic notes.] So what happened? I suspect that an unhealthy, loveless suspicion of the orthodoxy of their brethren, like a creeping rot, set in. This may have been fueled by some unwise, overreaching expressions of objective and by individuals who have unwisely uncoupled objective justification from subjective justification. In the wake of suspicion I suspect that gradually the spirit of arrogance gain a foothold. Is there anything more poisonous than arrogance? Is there any apple on which a person is more likely to choke than the notion that I know more than you do? [GJ - We should all study "love" from the UOJists! I read LQ for laughs, as poorly educated Universalists glory in their superiority. The typical layman in any denomination knows Christian doctrine better than these blokes.]

All of this is mere speculation. Perhaps speculating on the “why” of this issue isn’t a particularly helpful undertaking. It could be that the exact cause(s) of this abandonment of the teaching of objective justification lie hidden with God.

Simon Reyonlds: Surely they had an obligation to voice any concerns they might have had before accepting a call to be a faithful servant of the Lord Jesus. So what happened?

This question also gets asked whenever an ordained member of the Missouri Synod swims the Tiber or Bosporus.

Another question is: How does the seminary interview and evaluate students to determine if a student has Lufauxran doctrinal views that he is trying to conceal?

For example, some levels of government security clearances include undergoing a polygraph test. Have seminaries ever done polygraphs on 4th year seminarians?

It is possible that men graduate from the seminary without seriously considering everything they are taught and then, after graduation, are confronted with theological issues they treated lightly while at the seminary. They fall under the good or bad influence of other pastors. The fellow who heads up ELDoNA is a strong personality, quite bright, and persuasive. ELDoNA has a sectarian type of atmosphere about it wherein one finds it difficult to dissent from the tribal consensus. [GJ - LQ is a conclave of mini-popes, stomping their crosiers and yelling Anathema sit!Anathema sit!Anathema sit! The Spenerites agree with the divines of the Council of Trent, because they also condemn justification by faith. Therefore, LCMS seminarians are trained to become Roman Catholic priests.]

How to explain the defection from the truth on the part of the pastors of ELDoNA? It is extremely difficult to take a stand against the only truly trustworthy and orthodox men in the world. The tribal character of these more orthodox than thou groups ensures that when an error captures the leadership it will soon infect the whole membership.
[GJ - Irony abounds. Missouri began as a sex cult led by a syphilitic bishop who demanded total obedience from CFW Walther and Company - and got it - until the clap broke out among the young women and Walther got his chance to lead a riot, steal the bishop's land and gold, and take over. Missouri's current UOJ is Stephan's UOJ.]

This is true. However, in some cases, these tribal errors do cause further division of the group into even smaller tribes, or cause a lone dissenting congregation to simply become independent.

I also see some of the same tribal effect you are talking about happening in the larger synods. This tribal mentality is not limited to micro-synods, though it is perhaps stronger and also easier to recognize in these small groups.

Still, this tribalism even happens among the smaller cliques and groups within the LCMS. In the LCMS, open dissent from the "official" teaching of synod is tolerated. This is well and good for those who hold proper orthodox positions not reflected in official synod teaching. However, it forms small groups that police their own pet doctrinal positions in much the same way these micro-synods do, even if the groups are more loosely defined than actual micro-synods are, because they still have fellowship with those they believe are in error.

I would be interested in hearing what you believe the differences are between the ministry issue that happened in the ELS and the OJ issue that happened in ELDNoA. Is it necessarily true that dissent in ELDNoA was more difficult because of its size, or simply less likely? Even so, was not the leadership in the ELS just as big of a bully, and perhaps even harder to resist for some because of the larger numbers who fell into ranks behind the leadership? [GJ - Holy Father Rolf, please explain some things for us.]

You raise some interesting questions, Erich. There is a tribal aspect to the various cliques one finds in the Missouri Synod, but it is also possible to be partly in and partly out of a particular tribe, and to move from one tribe to another. In the smaller synods, the synod is the tribe. There will be dissent and quarrelling to a degree, but when the group speaks as a group you line up behind them or you leave. Not so in the LCMS. In the LCMS you fight on.

I don’t know the men of the ELDoNA well enough to know if any of them have reservations about ELDoNA’s attack on objective justification. I recall vividly how a significant portion of the ELS that had rejected the WELSian position for years, quickly fell in line behind it after it became clear that the ELS would adopt it. When I publicly took issue with it after it became official I broke a cardinal rule: I publicly displayed disloyalty to the tribe. From ELS President John Moldstad, Jr.'s perspective, he had no choice but to exclude me, due process be damned. The integrity of the “orthodox synod” will be compromised if an articulate opponent of the official stance can remain within the tribe. I’m pretty sure it's the same with the ELDoNA.

In the Missouri Synod we have no tribal consensus. We are stuck with an unresponsive bureaucracy in which due process becomes a barrier to doctrinal discipline. But consider the Becker case. Terry Forke prevailed and Becker is gone. Stick-to-itiveness sometimes works in the long run. In the tribal system, due process is given at most lip-service. Defenders of the integrity of the tribe generally view it with suspicion and distrust.

ChurchMouse:

As elated growers applied more nitrogen, it bound up with calcium in the soil which, in turn, produced weak cell walls in crops. Insects then arrived to eat the less-than-optimum plants. Growers then applied petrochemical-based insecticide which killed the pests — along with micro-organisms necessary for good, nutritious plants. Further nitrogen applications burned the decomposed plant matter necessary for any other micro-organisms to exist.

GJ - I was going to write about leaving the leaves alone when ChurchMouse published this.

If we believe in Creation, it only makes sense that letting God's design take over will produce better and healthier results than using stinky, obnoxious, toxic manufactured chemicals.

Man-made chemicals seep through the soil and enter the water table. Organic amendments - like leaves and wood mulch - are held in the root zone by a vast array of fungi and soil creatures. The foundational work is microscopic and largely ignored or not appreciated. The larger creatures, like earthworms, take over from the beneficial work of protozoa, bacteria, and fungi, and enhance what is being done at the microscopic level.

I want the leaves to accumulate along the fences - free mulch and fertilizer. I want the leaves to coat all three rose gardens. The leaves will look like trash in the spring, wet and soggy, but disappear into the soil and birds' nests. I pile up leaves under the Crepe Myrtle bush, repeatedly, in the fall. I have almost nothing left under the growing bush in the spring, when flowers begin to form, and I have the best flowering Crepe Myrtle in our neighborhood.

We collect vast amounts of cardboard, newspapers, and wood mulch, and use them all. Our goal is not to rake up leaves and haul them away, but to grab our neighbor's work and add it to the compost pile, the rose gardens, and the sunny tomato garden.

Pine needles are a pain until blueberries are planted. Then they are a way to keep the weeds down and the acid level up, just what blueberries want.

When Matt Harrison was elected, with the furtive help of Paul McCain, the LCMS convention gave even more votes for continuing their relationship with ELCA.

So there is no contradiction, Missouri wanted another Kieschnick, and they got another Kieschnick. I have more respect for Kieschnick,  because he did not elevate Herman Otten's mole and reward him with millions in pay from the cash-strapped CPH customers.

Mr. Bean is giving LCMS-WELS-ELS-ELCA the stink-eye back.

GJ - I found the new ELCA to be so repulsive and disgusting that I left before the merger took place, suffering a large loss of income. But God provided, as He promised.

Unfortunately, in spite of their pious claims, WELS and ELS and Missouri are delighted to work with ELCA and lap up funds from Thrivent, which is not only pan-Lutheran but pan-religious and secular besides. If readers would take advantage of the published reports of Thrivent, they would see:

  • Thrivent is not a good deal for them.
  • Thrivent gives away millions of  to enhance its image with all kinds of secular causes. So that money is simply promotional, not benefiting Holy Mother Sect at all.
  • If Thrivent runs its system the way AAL did, then the local regions are effectively uniting ELCA-WELS-ELS-LCMS at the congregational level. Clearly that has been true at the national level for decades (AAL and Lutheran Brotherhood both).

WELS District President Bullies Council To Protect Pastor Wall. Six Page Love Letter to Minor Girl?

Pastor Steve Wall still has his call.

Christ Lutheran Church, WELS, Juneau, Alaska

Pastor Steve Wall, married with four children, had his call rescinded by the church council after writing a six-page love letter to a minor girl. Other reasons were given as well.

District President Steinbrenner flew in and bullied council members into quitting, saving the pastor's call. He laughed off the love letter to the minor girl and said it would not hold up in court.

The meeting left the members wondering how long this behavior has been going on and protected by the synod, truly an abusive sect.

When the DP is done destroying this congregation, the synod will pocket the million dollars the property is worth.

Ex-WELS Layman:
This self-serving wolf [John Steinbrenner], undoubtedly following synodical protocol, was a real piece of work.  He did not care one iota about the harmed child and her family, the council, the membership, or glorifying God.  He only cared about Holy Mother Synod and undoing what the council had already decided.  This toxic DP did so rattle two immature council members that one consciously mischaracterized the previous decision and the other backed down.

Although nearly a life-long WELSian, I resigned from all ties to the WELS and this church.  My final words to the DP were, “There are those that say the WELS is an abusive sect.  I have now experienced this for myself.”

Our Staff
At Cross of Christ we are truly grateful for our gifted spiritual leaders. Because our pastors correctly handle God’s saving Word, we honor them and their work. Likewise, our shepherds serve us tirelessly because they want our church family to continually grow closer to Jesus our Savior. As with our church family’s oneness in faith, our pastors share a unified philosophy toward team ministry that results in giving God their best without concern for individual credit. We are proud of our pastors and the way they work well together to meet the needs of our family, encourage individuals and motivate and rejuvenate each other with God’s Word.

I have several volumes of theological works by 17th century Lutherans translated and/or published with the help of James Heiser. He was a very promising theologian. His fall into error on the central article of the Christian religion should serve as a warning to all of us. Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.

I have several volumes from Repristination Press as well. My favorite is Gerhard's History of the Suffering and Death of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My comment about the name of the publishing house was not meant as a condemnation of its valuable work.

Indeed, Pr. Preus, we all should beware of falling into error. We all do!

Bivens thinks Universal Absolution without Faith
is the Chief Article of the Christian Religion -
and he blames the educational system?

A question and response from the 2015 Vol.12 Preach the Gospel: A Magazine of Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary.

In an article entitled: "Brug & Bivens, Transition to Retirement" (page 6), the following question and response is noted.

Question:   Have students changed over the years?

Brug:  Students don't read today like in the past. Many don't have a broad grasp of history and and literature and culture. They have difficulty writing with a fine style. The decline of reading has affected our students in a negative way.

Bivens:  Profs can't make the assumption about broad knowledge--whether it's Bible knowledge or English literature or history. We can't use classical allusions in the classroom. No one will get it. It's not the students fault. It's culture, our education.

Brug managed to write The Ministry of the Word
without mentioning the efficacy of the Word
(Genesis, John, Luther, Book of Concord, Isaiah, etc)

WELS men are more interested in cross-dressing than Greek.
At least they haven't videotaped It's Raining Men -
or have they?

Yet More Laughable Lies from the Former Archbishop of the Rolf Synod

$
0
0

GJ - They are really hating on ELDONA at SpenerQuest.

Rolf Preus was the Archbishop of the Rolf Synod for a time. He led this group out of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod - the Little Sect on the Prairie - but they expelled him a bishop-for-life.

It is a good thing they did not treat him the way the Walther mob treated Bishop Martin Stephan.
They threatened Stephan with his life, robbed him of his gold, books, and personal possessions. Then they forced him out of his house to sleep on the bare soil all night, and kidnapped him at gunpoint to make him live - or die - in Illinois.

No, I did not forget about the land theft. Before Walther took the mob down from St. Louis to Perrysville, he came to the town and took back the land that the Saxons gave Stephan, changing the title.  Later, he talked Stephan's son into giving up the rest of the land that Stephan owned there - for nothing.

Here is the funniest lie of all, because it is so often repeated by those who gave sainthood to Walther. "No one knew about the adultery until a woman confessed her adultery after a particularly rough sermon on the topic. Or maybe two confessed."

Stephan's lawyers, his mistress, and his son were on the same ship traveling to America, but his sick wife and the dying children were left in Dresden. Walther's brother was on the same ship, but no one noticed anything? Yet Walther and his brother signed onto Stephan's elevation to bishop in New Orleans. To this day, the LCMS, WELS, and ELS pastors are rewarded and promoted for adultery, unless it gets their synod into trouble.

It is also an exercise in pride to think that you can escape the influences of your own generation and leap over the centuries to adopt the views of another generation without taking any of your baggage with you. Better to stay within the tradition that gave you the wisdom of the fathers. Walter is a good example of this. He learned his theology from Baier's Compendium, which distilled the theology of the Lutheran fathers. Walther didn't break with this tradition, but when he came to the New World and had to deal with issues in America that would not have arisen in the old country he did so. He led a revival of confessionalism in America that was reignited in the 20th century. To dismiss Walther and think that one understands Lutheran orthodoxy better than he did (as is the case with the ELDoNA crowd) is supreme arrogance, in my opinion.

Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
10 Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.11 Blessed are ye, when men shall revile you, and persecute you, and shall say all manner of evil against you falsely, for my sake. 12 Rejoice, and be exceeding glad: for great is your reward in heaven: for so persecuted they the prophets which were before you.

ALL SAINTS' DAY

O almighty and everlasting God, who through Thine only-begotten and beloved Son, Jesus Christ, wilt sanctify all Thine elected and beloved: Give us grace to follow their faith, hope, and charity, that we together with them may obtain eternal life: through Thy Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one true God, world without end. Amen.

The Nine-Fold Blessings

KJV Matthew 5:1 And seeing the multitudes, he went up into a mountain: and when he was set, his disciples came unto him: 2 And he opened his mouth, and taught them, saying,

There are two ideal places for teaching a large crowd. One is on a lake with the ground rising up around it - the amphitheater effect. The other is on a high place with people seated around - the pulpit effect. I once preached in an old-fashioned pulpit where I was eye level with the balcony. Now the "ideal church" is a stage with enormous screens hanging here and there - the Pentecostal effect. The advent of enormous screens is not liturgical but anti-liturgical, an emphasis on entertainment rather than the Word of God. The same can be found at business conventions, where the mega-screen is the norm.

Rabbis taught sitting down, a practice carried over in cathedrals, literally where the bishop is seated. The Pope is allegedly infallible when he speaks ex cathedra, from the seat of his holy office of Antichrist.

Matthew is clearly the Gospel of the Church, always the basis for all of the Lives of Jesus. In Luke we have the Gospel with a gentile emphasis and crucial additions that are very much appreciated in the Christian Church. Mark is a combination of the two. In my opinion, Mark is a harmony or condensation of both, but that is just an opinion. The Gospel of John emphasizes the Father-Son relationship, faith, and also the sermons of Jesus about faith in Him. The extensive sermon passages in John assume knowledge of the basic narrative from Matthew, Mark, and Luke.

Modern Biblical scholars are almost always wrong because they work is an exercise in creative writing and overturning whatever has been taught before. They are very puffed up about their theories, which float above the earth, devoid of evidence. They even have a journal where all their theories are summarized in enormous essays, stupendously lacking in faith, as if ants gathered around a dead body and commented on how good it tasted, forgetting the purpose of that animal in the first place.

Jesus taught them - very important words. We have to assume God knows a lot about adult education, because the Scriptures show that in so many ways. The Beatitudes are nine separate blessings, reminding us of the three-fold work of the Holy Trinity. Unbelievers cannot find the Trinity in the Bible, but believers see it everywhere. They start with Genesis 1, continue throughout the Old Testament, and flourish in the New Testament. These reference protect believers against emphasizing one Person over another, which the cults manage to accomplish - the Father only (Unitarianism in the old days), the Son only (the moderns, but only His human nature), and the Spirit only (one or more of the Pentecostal sects).

When Jesus is teaching us directly, we are listening to Him in person. The Holy Spirit brings us to Him through the Word. People write about wanting to meet Jesus. That would surely change them, they say. We meet Jesus always through the Word and ignoring that is a despising of the Means of Grace. Therefore it is impossible to have this meeting with Jesus the Son of God without being changed by it. For some, it means irritation and increasing hardness and blindness.

These Beatitudes start with the word blessed, which is emphasis in the original text. No one has improved on the Luther-King James version of the Beatitudes. Lunky moderns write some like "The poor are happy because..." and lose the meaning entirely.

Lenski:
The Beatitudes read like a Psalm; μακάριοι at once recalls the blessed of Ps. 1:1. “Blessed!” intoned again and again, sounds like bells of heaven, ringing down into this unblessed world from the cathedral spires of the kingdom inviting all men to enter. The word, like its opposite “woe,” is neither a wish regarding a coming condition, nor a description of a present condition, but a judgment pronounced upon the persons indicated, stating that they must be considered fortunate. The form is almost exclamatory: “O the blessedness of those who,” etc.! And it is Jesus who renders this judgment, which is, therefore, absolutely true although all the world may disagree. Each of the eight judgments is at once established by revealing in what the blessedness actually consists; and the eighth judgment is even doubled, and its blessedness is unveiled in two strong statements. All this blessedness is spiritual, each part of it coming from the great Messianic kingdom, true soul-blessedness, a rich possession now but with a glorious promise of still greater riches—the very opposite of the word’s happiness which is poisoned already in the bud and soon blasted forever. “Blessed” means joy for those concerned. But this is the heavenly way: the great gifts of the kingdom are ours, insuring a constant flow of joy, so that, even if for a moment we be sad and sorrowful, the joy will again well up in our hearts. John 15:11.
Lenski, R. C. H.: The Interpretation of St. Matthew's Gospel. Minneapolis, MN. : Augsburg Publishing House, 1961, S. 183.

3 Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

The Gospel is not for the powerful and mighty, the arrogant and proud. The Gospel is for the weak, the sick, the stricken, the poor in spirit. One can manage a kingdom of commerce or people and be poor in spirit - it is rare, but happens. The Earl of Oxford play (aka Shakespeare) Henry V emphasizes this. The king says, "Only God could have won this victory." I have known the very poor who were arrogant and blind. One old man was still bitter because his mother left the family for a time, even though she came back "And she was a Christian." Nothing could dissuade him from his hatred of the Faith and his excuse for that. And it affected his daughter and many others.

As Luther often said, the believer has heaven and earth, so he need not worry. Anxiety is our more common affliction. As I thought many times,  "Who wants and old guy with way too much education?" I had experiences like not even getting a reply before, from various entities. But recently I pressed the apply button and got hired within minutes (interview that day, clearly to tie me down at that store).

4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

There is a overwhelming attitude against mourning in our nation, which made a book The Denial of Death a best-seller. We have a friend who was chastised by mutual friends for mourning the loss of her husband, which is not only natural but also beneficial and healing for a believer.

One characteristic of Christian believers is being at peace with loss because of everlasting life promised through the Gospel, through grace, through faith in the Savior, not through our good works. The Master Mason admonition at funerals will say that the Mason has eternal life for being a good Mason. That is the way unbelievers think and the opposite of the Gospel.

Our comfort is not lacking in the pain of loss, but it is lessened, softened by the peace that comes only through justification by faith. Luther's Gospel emphasis can be seen in his comforting words about suicide - those victims are like those who die from being lost in the woods. We know parents who bought a new car for their son, not knowing it had a flaw. It locked up and flipped him, and he died. The same kind of tragedy causes anger and self-blame, but we know it should not.

Likewise, having a child with a rare disorder makes people blame. "You should not have lived in a town with a foundry." But no other child has that disorder. "You should not have had a second child with that problem." The doctors even say, "We will check the unborn baby and..." My wife Chris said, "Are you kidding me?" In refusing to allow sick, weak, different children, we weaken ourselves with denial. What happens when we are sick, weak, and handicapped by old age?

But Christ teaches that we have grace through faith in Him, and that gives us peace. The question is not "Did I do enough?" But - "Did Christ do enough?" And He did. Jesus died for great and terrible sins, for petty, minor, venial sins, so that those of us weak with sin have strength and comfort in Him.

Lenski:
This second pronouncement is as paradoxical as the first. The verb denotes loud mourning such as the lament for the dead or for a severe, painful loss. The sorrow for our sins in true contrition should not be excluded from this mourning. Do our sins inflict no loss upon us? Do they not rob us of what is dearer than relatives, money, or other goods? Instead of excluding sorrow for sin, this is the chief part of the lament. But, of course, we must include all other grief and sorrow due to the power of sin in the world as this inflicts blows, losses, and pain upon the godly. It includes every wrong done us, as well as every painful consequence of our own wrongdoing. It is almost self-evident that this mourning is not like that of the world which howls loud enough when its sins find it out: “but the sorrow of the world worketh death,” 2 Cor. 7:10.
Behind this sorrow of the godly lies the recognition of the merciless power of sin and of our helplessness to ward it off and to escape. Hence this mourning is a constant cry to God in their distress. The substantivized participle is the present tense and thus characterizes the godly as mourning constantly. As far as contrition is concerned, let us keep in mind the first of Luther’s famous 95 Theses, that our entire life must be a continuous contrition and repentance. As far as other sorrows are concerned, “we must through much tribulation enter into the kingdom of God,” Acts 14:22; in fact, all the passages that speak of tribulation belong here. God’s people are, indeed, a mournful lot!
But how can they be called blessed, emphatic αὐτοί, “they, just they,” “they alone”? Because they are the only ones who “shall be consoled.” The passive implies that God is their consoler. And this is a future tense. Chiliasts interpret: “shall be consoled in the glorious earthly Messianic Millennium, when all the forces of evil are crushed, when all the Christians shall at last be triumphant.” Until that time these mourners must remain comfortless save for the prospect of that distant comfort. But Christ says, “I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you,” John 14:18; and when he came, we read, “Then were the disciples glad, when they saw the Lord,” John 20:20. No; this chiliastic comfort kingdom is but a mirage. The future tense is future to the mourning: the comfort always at once follows the mourning. Remember the “little while” in John 16:16. The greatest of all comfort is the absolution pronounced upon every contrite mourning sinner. Without this all other comfort is vain. And in tribulation God’s Word, God’s deliverance and help, God’s support, cheer and uplift us as nothing else could so. Finally, God’s promises of future deliverance from all evil in the heavenly kingdom of glory fill us with abounding comfort. As our mourning rises unto God in this vale of sin and tears, so his constant comfort flows down to us. Thus we who mourn are of all men most blessed, for we, indeed, are comforted.

5 Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am meek and lowly in heart, and ye shall find rest unto your souls.

Psalm 37

King James Version (KJV)
37 Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity.
For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed.
Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart.
Commit thy way unto the Lord; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday.
Rest in the Lord, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil.
For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon theLord, they shall inherit the earth.
10 For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
11 But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.
12 The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth.
13 The Lord shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming.
14 The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation.
15 Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken.
16 A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked.
17 For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the Lordupholdeth the righteous.
18 The Lord knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever.
19 They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied.
20 But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the Lordshall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away.
21 The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth.
22 For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off.
23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.
24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for theLord upholdeth him with his hand.
25 I have been young, and now am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread.
26 He is ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed is blessed.
27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore.
28 For the Lord loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
29 The righteous shall inherit the land, and dwell therein for ever.
30 The mouth of the righteous speaketh wisdom, and his tongue talketh of judgment.
31 The law of his God is in his heart; none of his steps shall slide.
32 The wicked watcheth the righteous, and seeketh to slay him.
33 The Lord will not leave him in his hand, nor condemn him when he is judged.
34 Wait on the Lord, and keep his way, and he shall exalt thee to inherit the land: when the wicked are cut off, thou shalt see it.
35 I have seen the wicked in great power, and spreading himself like a green bay tree.
36 Yet he passed away, and, lo, he was not: yea, I sought him, but he could not be found.
37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
38 But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off.
39 But the salvation of the righteous is of the Lord: he is their strength in the time of trouble.
40 And the Lord shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.

6 Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Some are tormented or dissatisfied or longing for forgiveness of sin. That is the meaning of righteousness - not being perfect, but being perfected by Christ. The righteous in the Old Testament are those justified by faith in the promised Savior. The saints in the New Testament are those who are justified by faith in Jesus, the Savior who fulfilled all the Promises of the Old Testament.

Various denominations, cults, and sects can make us long for true peace which only comes through the grace of God and justification by faith. In that respect they are good, for agitating us, for disturbing us, and often for hating or kicking us out. Good for them. Some glory in always being "......." fill in the blanks. And yet nowhere does the Word promise that belonging somewhere is a work that pleases God. Only faith in the Savior is pleasing. God gives this willingly and abundantly but the pride and hardness of man distorts and removes this.

Now I do farmer-like work, but not as difficult or dusty. I am active 8 hours a day and that means I take care to have water to drink. One common question is "where is the water?" And hunger means eating a very good meal and feeling like it disappeared into my raging metabolism. Satisfied, yet. Not full and ready to sleep, but re-energized for more. That is a good feeling.

More importantly, feeling our sin through the Confession of Sins, we hunger and thirst for forgiveness through the Word and Holy Communion - and we are satisfied and energized for the Christian life (aka sanctification).

Here are three Beatitudes about the Christian life. Each one is a beautiful statement about how we should live as forgiven believers -

Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

God has shown us ultimate mercy, though we are still weak and sinful and need His grace constantly. How can we not show that mercy to others in their weakness and sinfulness? If you want to teach your children how not to forgive, then prove them you never forgive anything or anyone. That will be a lesson welded into their hearts.

But if they constantly hear and experience forgiveness and mercy, kindness to others, they will live accordingly. But that comes from the Word. With the Word comes a constant meeting with Christ Himself, the example of grace and mercy.

Lenski:
The agent back of the passive “shall be treated mercifully” is again God, and again the future means at once as we show mercy. In this future tense we ought to see the impossibility of a reference to the hereafter. There will be no misery there and thus no possibility of merciful treatment on the part of God. God first makes us merciful and then even blesses us for being merciful. This beatitude has stimulated God’s people to do all manner of eleemosynary work. It is well known how absolutely bare of even the idea of mercy many heathen religions are. The mercy of unchristian men about us, such as it is, disjoined from Christ, relieving only physical distress, is one of the indirect results of Christianity, never an outgrowth of the natural heart as such. The fearful cruelty which slumbers in the unregenerate heart, when occasion brings it out, is often appalling, and its worst feature is “man’s cruelty to man.”
Lenski, R. C. H.: The Interpretation of St. Matthew's Gospel. Minneapolis, MN. : Augsburg Publishing House, 1961, S. 191.

The Pure in Heart

Lenski:
Ps. 24:4; compare 73:1; Gen. 20:5, 6; and then 1 Tim. 1:5; 2 Tim. 2:22; 1 Pet. 1:22, and Zahn’s conclusion is evident: “pure in heart” = sinceritas, singleness of heart, the honesty which has no hidden motive, no selfish interest, and is true and open in all things. Nothing is lost by thus specifying this virtue, for it is possible only in a heart that is justified and sanctified by God.
As the virtue, so the reward of grace: “just they shall see God.” Whatever may be said regarding seeing God in his Word by faith and regarding seeing him spiritually in communion with him in this life, “shall see God” must here be the visio Dei in the other world, promised to the glorified saints, 1 Cor. 13:12; 1 John 3:2, 3. Between God who is pure and the pure in heart (the dative as in v. 3) an affinity exists, the consummation of which is reached in heaven. The greatest joy of heaven will be the vision of God. We need not think of looking into the unfathomable essence of God; for as God’s presence delights the angel hosts and fills them with ineffable blessedness, so his presence will be made manifest to the pure in heart. Blessedness will flood them like light in the beatific vision of the All-pure.
Lenski, R. C. H.: The Interpretation of St. Matthew's Gospel. Minneapolis, MN. : Augsburg Publishing House, 1961, S. 192.

Children exemplify purity of heart. One little girl looked at the soup being put up above the normal shelves and asked, "How will people reach the soup?" She was worried about unknown strangers being denied the soup.

Peacemakers

Lenski:
Compare Eph. 4:3; Rom. 14:19; 1 Cor. 14:33; Heb. 12:14; etc. At peace with God and thus themselves filled with sweet peace, they live in peace, if possible, with all men and work to keep and to make peace wherever peace is threatened or lost. Theirs is the work of true Christians who follow in the footsteps of the Prince of Peace. Nor is this “peace at any price,” which ignores confessional principles and is unwilling to contend for the faith once delivered to the saints (Jude 3). These are not unionistic peacemakers who combine contrary doctrines by agreeing to disagree. Truth of God comes first, peace with men second. Friends are dear, the Word of our greatest Friend dearest. No “blessed” was spoken by Jesus upon the disrupters of the church who insist on their false views, nor upon those who regard the peace and the fellowship of their brother-confessors as being of slight value, so that they may run after other fellowships. The true peace of the church is a blessed possession, we cannot guard it too closely. Contentious, stubborn, obstreperous church members—this beatitude ought to make them impossible. Also in the world, wherever strife arises, the followers of Christ work for peace in the spirit of their Master.
The passive “shall be called” implies “by God,” for he alone can bestow the title “God’s sons” in truth and in reality. Here, too, the future tense means that God shall call them his sons now when they prove their relation to him by their peacemaking. Chiliasts again think of their future mirage kingdom, and others of the world to come. “God’s sons, shall they be called; the title is not “children.” The latter carries rather the connotation of tender affection, the former that of dignity and high standing. Hence also “they shall be called” God’s sons; this high distinction shall be accorded to them, and by God himself. God himself shall own them as sons of his. He who sent his Son to make peace between God and man will acknowledge as his sons those who in the spirit of his Son also make peace.
[1]Lenski, R. C. H.: The Interpretation of St. Matthew’s Gospel. Minneapolis, MN. : Augsburg Publishing House, 1961, S. 193.

The peacemakers are those who scatter the Gospel here and there. Where the Gospel springs up, so does forgiveness, peace, and everlasting life. Death is slain.
Therefore anyone who shares in this is a son of God and blessed.

I often write about this but it welcome repetition. Many are feeling the horrible pain of suffering from abuse and rejection for standing for the Gospel. Long ago they never saw it coming and no one can prepare for the severity and extent of this experience, but it is a blessing to be driven from the slave camp into freedom, even if few want to go along. This  is a good passage to remember when this happens and the pain continues. This is the blessed, holy cross that is attached to the Word.

Another writer said, "I am not meeting my book deadline." I said, "No one ever does, whether in books or software." However, deadlines do give a proximate time of completion.

My easy month turned out doubly-busy and physically challenging. Now I have a double decrease and can finish The Faith of Jesus: Against the Faithless Lutherans.

I really enjoy the final stage of editing, because I can add footnotes, fix problems, and make the book more readable. But it takes a lot of mental energy and some physical energy as well.

The anger eruptions at SpenerQuest encourage me. The more they expose their foolish false dogma, the more people wake up to the real meaning of their code language, designed to fool people into thinking they really do teach justification by faith. "I used the word faith, didn't I?"

Objective Justification = saved by grace through faith = God has forgiven the entire world, without the Word, without the Means of Grace, without faith.

Staggering Biblical stupidity,
but Robert Preus repented in Justification and Rome.

LCMS Brief Statement - oops, forgot Romans 4:24, Romans 5:1-2:

Scripture teaches that God has already declared the whole world to be righteous in Christ, Rom. 5:19; 2 Cor. 5:18-21; Rom. 4:25;

In fact, they glory in everyone forgiven and saved without faith and attack faith as a work of man.

Is faith a work of man? Really?

Explaining the WELS Cult - Love Letter to a Minor Girl from a Pastor? Dbr>DP Steinbrenner Bullies the Council into Restoring the Call

WELS Pastor Steve Wall penned a six-page, hand-written love note
to a minor girl in his congregation.

District President response? - He flew to Juneau, to bully
the church council into reversing the decision.
Why are Wall and Steinbrenner still pastors?
At least the Vatican pretends to be embarrassed
by such scandals.

702

Note the date. In less than a week, this story became a leader for the month.

Steinbrenner's congregation has two Church and Change all-stars on the staff.

WELS Pastor Ben Workentine vicared at Holy Word, Austin,
headquarters of the odious Don Patterson Network,
one of nodes of the Mark Jeske Crime Family.

Pastor Kristen administered the Means of Graceand the coffee at St. Andrew's,
which closed with a whimper,
in spite of help from Stroh, the synod magazine, and tons of staff.

WELS District President John Steinbrenneris a perfect example of GA hazing.

First of all, several people had a duty to inform the officials of this offense against a minor girl. The pastor should have resigned on his own, and the District President should have reported the incident to the authorities.

How did the DP respond when he came to the meeting? The pastor had already been fired, so the DP was clearly there to reverse the council's decision and kill the scandal by driving conscientious council members away.

Quotation -

The DP ...behaved right out of hell.

A second council meeting was held three weeks later so the pastor could respond to the charges and formal notice of termination would be given.  As a courtesy, the DP was invited to attend.

At the meeting the DP quickly transformed into a mean-spirited bully and attempted to control the meeting.  He had invited the individual who previously resigned to this meeting to parrot false accusations the DP had fed him.  After much bantering this fool was instructed to leave.  [The church is council-led; this was a confidential meeting dealing with personnel-related detail and a minor.  The council represents the church members.]

The DP was a dissembler--arrogant, smug, divisive and as I told him, with a chip on his shoulder.  His behaviour was right out of hell and the aura of evil emanated from him.  His erroneous narrative was refuted several times.  He was disrespectful, answering questions with questions in a sarcastic manner.  As president I told him that WELS had no authority over the meeting.

This self-serving wolf, undoubtedly following synodical protocol, was a real piece of work.  He did not care one iota about the harmed child and her family, the council, the membership, or glorifying God.  He only cared about Holy Mother Synod and undoing what the council had already decided.  This toxic DP did so rattle two immature council members that one consciously mischaracterized the previous decision and the other backed down.

end of quotation

Pastor Wall and DP Steinbrenner are condemned by their own actions. Readers will remember how gleefully Jon Buchholz removed Paul Rydecki from the ministerium for teaching justification by faith, subsequently kicking the congregation out of WELS and trying to steal their property.

Do not expect help from Synod President Mark Schroeder, whose reign of error has included even more protection of Mark Jeske, Inc, than Gurgle before him.

The Mark Jeske Crime Family includes a tight network
of Church and Changers, all duly abused in the secretive
WELS initiation ritual at their disgusting seminary.

The GA Hazing Explanation
I have so many examples of the same that I am not going to list them all or even attempt to explain this one - except there is one single, clear and compelling reason for this behavior.

I could write about the degenerate drunks who run the show, or their false doctrine. But there is something unique about WELS that makes the stink-per-pastor much higher than any other apostate organization, perhaps worse than the Church of Rome.

WELS hazing begins with the prep schools, continues with college, and blossoms at Wisconsin Lutheran Seminary. Three factors are
  • perversion,
  • bullying, and
  • lying.
They glory in all three, saying "We are not good at sanctification."

Perversion
The men love to cross-dress and force others to do the same. That even carries over to the pastorate, as shown by Wayne Mueller's son cross-dressing with his council members at a church picnic and posting the photos for everyone to see.

One part of hazing at NWC was forcing the new students to simulate anal intercourse with the Sprinter statue.

I know many tales of bullying and homosexual aggression, from the prep school, where one guy went to the hospital for molesting a fellow student - to seminary, where a new student was sexually assaulted by a seminary student as he arrived to visit the campus. He was hated out  of WELS for complaining about it. Martin Luther College was so keen on making gay and obscene videos that they had to be ordered to stop uploading them to YouTube.

Perversion is so normal in WELS that the pastors laugh about it.

One part of GA is disrobing in public, where the female kitchen staff can watch from the window. The GA pope I saw played it gay.

Bullying
The cult uses physical, verbal, and emotional bullying to keep the captives in line. Everyone has a story. "You think that is bad?" Like secular fraternities, the WELS bullies like to inflict various kinds of pain, because "it makes us closer." That sounds like Rome's Opus Dei - pain is good.

Wayne Mueller threatened the pastor (perhaps in that crowd) who leaked information to Ichabod. "If I get my hands on the pastor who gave that to Jackson..." I showed that Mueller's little write-up showed how he was a liar about Luther's teaching. The pastor-leaker thought the threat was funny, but he went back to plantation to serve as a loyal slave again.

Often the bullying comes from "friends" who do the work of the slave-masters for them. The leaders get the "best friend" to phone the dissenter and scream at him and threaten him.

In GA, the upperclassmen split into Hards and Softs, play acting either the Bullie or the Sympathetic Helper. The Bullies scream at the new students and threaten them. The Softs "help out" while laughing at the reactions and reporting back.

Lying Is Standard for WELS, GA Teaches It
GA (or HB) begins with a debate about holding it. That is also a lie. The pastors who are fathers laugh when their sons phone up and say, "They are not having GA this year."

Often one pastor will pretend to be very sympathetic about the latest WELS abuse, whether the sympathy is aimed at another pastor, a teacher, or a member. The idea is to gather as much information as possible for the DP and to betray the person at the worst possible moment. One person had this done to him twice in a row and never became a teacher because of it. He was very nervous in reporting it to me.

No one can imagine the church officials being such lying, degenerate, unbelieving drunks, but they are. They prove that by what they tolerate, reward, and promote.

Recovering from an Abusive Cult - Like WELS, ELS, CLC (sic)

$

One cat does not belong in this cult.

The first step in recovering from an abusive cult like the Wisconsin Synod is to be kicked out or hated out. Some resign in disgust, as I did.

The Wisconsin cult loves to drive people out and then encourage them back in, once their spirit of rebellion is broken. Since everyone they knew was shunning them, the prospect seems pleasing. But that is a big mistake.

The Wisconsin cult, the Evangelical Lutheran Synod, and the Church of the Lutheran Confession (sic) exist as abusive groups. The horrible treatment of pastors, teachers, wives, and children is not incidental to the sect but its substantial identity. The only escape is to be born to the purple, as the Byzantine Empire liked to call this status. Born to the purple means "coming from the right family," which certifies someone for high office, even if (or especially if) lacking in IQ and ability.

Some are adopted in and given a free pass - which is the purpose of WELS/ELS Church and Change. This adoption brings immunity from prosecution and unemployment. Pastoral adultery breaks up a marriage in the parish? No problem - the lout becomes a mission counselor in the same region. Sure, everyone knows, but that will last a short time and be covered up by a thick layer of slander aimed at the innocent. DUI? - There is no Ministers Against Drunk Driving. Instead, the cult moves their drunks around, kill the evidence with help from lawyers, and maintain silence about the truth. "There is no love like the love of one drunk for another." Homer Jackson

If you want a friend in the WELS Cult,
get a dog.

When things are boiling over for a moment - in the abusive sects - watch out for the suddenly sympathetic ear. That person is reporting directly to the DP and enjoying the GA game of being a Soft.

Some are asking - what about the LCMS? They certainly engage in abuse, but as an oceanographer said, "The solution to pollution is dilution." Missouri definitely started as an abusive sex cult, but the influence of the Waltherian Clapto-Calvinists has been watered down. They have many circles of loyalists to various causes, such as women's ordination, gay ordination, union with ELCA, Church Growth, Pentecostalism, and Return to Holy Mother Rome. The pollution is diluted, but definitely there. They grab Yale-style tuition from MDiv students and refuse to ordain them, even letting some serve a parish a few years before gutting them in public.

Dilution is also the solution for WELS-ELS-CLC (sic) victims. The abusive leaders seriously wound their victims and leave emotional scars while making sure everyone lies about the victims as an excuse for shunning them. That includes relatives and close friends, not to mention business associates. Anyone who stays remains part of the abuse and engages in the same lying and abuse.

The worst thing is to stay in the cult and complain about it. When the president of Northwestern College was trying to run Kovaciny out of the ministry for complaining about hazing abuse, the Voss complaint was - "He did not like GA!" (That was from many years before.) Kovo escaped that one but remained fully committed to the system of abuse. As one person said recently, "His wife is a Hagedorn, and a Hagedorn was a founder of WELS."

This immunity from prosecution does not serve the pastors, teachers, and laity who only seem to prosper from it. They lose any sense of right and wrong, feeling the oppression of God's judgment without knowing or even recognizing the Gospel. Cult behavior is the garden of apostasy.

The best way to dilute the influence is to get to know the vast majority of believers who have little knowledge or experience with the secretive rules of abusive cults.

Unless you are one of the few who are on the “inside” of the movement, I suspect that you too will be astounded and dismayed exactly as I was. This is a must read for all thinking believers who wish to protect their churches.

I became very suspicious of the Duggar Cult when I began hearing them use special words and dwell on their meaning. They even bragged about it and constantly taught that obedience to the Law was required for God blessing them.

"Nike" meant all the men had to look at the ground instead of seeing an attractive woman.  To see an attractive young woman was "defrauding the eyes." These notions came from the promiscuous abuser of young women - a regular Martin Stephan - Bill Gothard, still a major figure in the Tontitown home of the Duggars.

Gothard’s booklet Establishing Biblical Standards of Courtship opens with a picture of a handsome couple riding bicycles together. Beneath the picture are the following words: Is this couple dating, or courting? The answer will have an important effect upon their lives, the lives of their families, and (if they marry) the lives of those in every generation which follows. There is a definite and vital difference between courtship and dating. Unless this difference is understood and the principles of courtship are applied, defrauding and hurts can result, as well as lasting physical, mental, and spiritual consequences.9

Here is a good description of WELS, the Little Sect on the Prairie, and the CLC (sic):

Paralyzing Fear Fear of making a deadly mistake is yet another reason people stay in abusive religious groups. One woman who called the Midwest Christian Outreach help-line had been a Jehovah’s Witness for 25 years. She was very unhappy as a Witness, but she was scared to death to leave. You see, a Jehovah’s Witness is taught that everyone outside of that organization is soon to be destroyed by God at Armageddon. This fear draws many into the group in the first place, and this same fear keeps many of them there even when they want so badly to breathe free. The woman had quit going to meetings, she said, but she lived in fear — not merely for herself, which she could tolerate, but the fear that she would be responsible for the destruction of her family who quit going when she did. We are happy to report that she listened to what we had to say and courageously left that organization. She accepted Christ and started attending a church, yet it took a long time to completely eradicate the fear of Armageddon that had been drummed into her. Having realized she had been so terribly deceived by them, she had a hard time trusting that she had made the correct judgment this time. It is really no different in IBLP. The Gothardites’ fear is not that of being destroyed at Armageddon but that their lives and their families will be destroyed, and God will reject them and punish them for leaving. After all, God has given Gothard all of the principles that, if followed obediently, protect families from divorce, teen rebellion, grave illness, financial loss, and other horrors. They’ve been persuaded that God works and blesses only through Gothard’s chain of authority — there’s no telling what catastrophic events might befall them if they get out from under this umbrella. These are issues which pastors and church leaders need to understand in order to be prepared to minister to such individuals. Many fine Christians have unwittingly switched their loyalties from God to Gothard and are very afraid to go against his teachings. In their minds, to do so might mean loss of family unity and God’s blessing. These individuals need Christian love and compassion to unwind and let go of their fears. For years, the Bible has meant what Gothard says that it means. It is important to go over Scripture with them, asking them to look closely at the text. This will help them greatly to see that often the text itself teaches the very opposite of what Gothard has taught. Once they begin to grasp the significance of this, their fear will dissipate as their devotion is turned away from Gothard and back to God where it belongs.

Grooming Young Women - Will WELS Do Something about Their Own Warren Jeffs? Will Missouri? Or the ELS? Or the CLC (sic)?

WELS District President John Steinbrenner
protected a pastor who was already fired,
using verbal abuse and manipulation
.
He and Wall should both resign.

Pastor Steve Wall penned a six-page love letter to a minor girl in his congregation. The council fired him, but the District President took over a meeting to which he was invited (as a courtesy) and bullied two council members into resigning. DP John Steinbrenner reversed the firing, protecting Wall from the consequences of his sin.

Say what you want about the Roman Catholic leaders who protect their priestly abusers of children - WELS, ELS, Missouri, and the CLC (sic) are no better. They knowingly protect the same class of criminals, until the backlash is strong and long enough to embarrass them.

Parallels to the Duggar-Gothard Scandals
The Duggar clan, famous for covering up incest in their own home, offers an instructive parallel to this story. I suspected, as the Duggar story unfolded, that he was surrounded by abuse of some nature. In news stories from various sources, there are Scout leaders, youth leaders, priests, and others who carry out their obsessions.

The Duggars were close to two different Evangelical child abusers - Bill Gothard and Doug Phillips.
Phillips gave Michelle Duggar a Mother of the Year award, where he could not keep his hands off her - so Jim Bob intervened. Phillips brought a teen girl into his home and made her his toy, because his wife "was dying" and he would marry the girl, who fell in love with him. " Phillips so-called ministry blew up when the girl sued.

Gothard Grooming a Bevy of Young Girls
Like Bill Cosby, Bill Gothard was finally exposed as a fiend who constantly preyed on the young. However, Gothard is even more closely connected to the Duggarnaut than is Doug Phillips.

Note this fact. The Duggar Whale-Sized Home in Tontitown was built for them by the TLC TV Channel after the first incest incidents, and designed to keep Josh away from his sisters at night. So the entire Duggar Myth was developed after the facts were known. That kept them from taping an Oprah show, since someone told her staff, but the facts did not keep them off  14, 15, 16, 17, 18,19 Kids and Counting.

Elderly bachelor Bill Gothard posed with the Duggar girls.

The Duggards are completely wrapped up in the Gothard philosophy and remain personal friends with the old unrepentant fiend himself.

Bill Gothard developed his own national network of conferences, accumulating hundreds of millions in assets. Josh and his estranged wife Anna met at a Gothard conference and saw each other again at the next one. That was on their own website, but one has to know what ILPB means and quote the Duggars before their lawyers say "Ooops!" and scrub the post.  I quoted and cited this information long ago. The Big I knows how these things work, after seeing so many WELS posts erased.

Gothard conferences are the Church and Change meetings of the Evangelical Right. They learn their orthodoxy, their secret languages, their rules and regulations. The conferences are also magnets for the wrong type of people.

WELS Pastor Ed Werner became a District President and remained in office
when known for abusing girls in his own congregation.
The mothers of the new generation of victims decided to finish
his term of office in state hoosegow. The mothers had been abused, too.
WELS never published the news report in their national PR magazine.

Grooming
Bill Gothard is an expert in grooming, manipulating, and using others. Like those bent on getting what they want, he created an emotional dependency that grew until the victim would do anything to gain love, affection, and positive attention from him.

Apparently he had the kind of charisma that comes from truly sociopathic characters, who glory in their ability to do anything they want, using compliments, accusations, threats - their libido disguised as affection. Control is their aim, purpose, and aphrodisiac.

Birds of a feather do flock together. Bill Gothard's brother also assaulted women in the Gothard cult. The brother was sent away to a remote location with some secretaries, where he assaulted them, too.

Robin's Grooming Story
Taking my hand, he leaned in with a boyish grin and said, “I’ve been watching you. Did you know you have the brightest countenance in this room?” Memories grow hazy after 25 years, but that particular moment is highlighted in my mind, and it struck the tone for the next four years of my life. I was seventeen.

For the life of me, I couldn’t figure out why in the world he would choose me, but Bill wanted me to come work at the Headquarters—and right away. It wasn’t long before I was working in his correspondence department. It soon became clear that I was special to him. I could make him laugh, and that was something I particularly enjoyed doing. He would always say, “You’re such a character,” and he regularly reminded me, “You are my energy-giver.”
The slandering, lying WELS leaders never tire of
citing the Eighth Commandment and Matthew 18.
I used to keep a folder of Eighth Commandment letters
from WELS - Kelm, Gerlach, etc.
Let's do some math. This was going on in the Gothard Cult 35 years ago, and good ol' Bill protected his brother good ol' Steve. Following the changes in initials would make a CPA dizzy, an engineer faint from exhaustion. But one thing is a constant - Bill was and is a lying predator. Now he is sorry he was not meditative enough. Aww - poor Bill. But we are encouraged that he can fake contrition so well.
The Stephanites did not leave Dresden until their leader
was under house arrest for immorality and
misuse of funds.
WELS and the rest like to use the same methods as Gothard, who changed initials for his traveling sex romps and money-grubbing. The various sects say, "That was years ago. I was not there. I know nothing about it."

Missouri did not begin when Stephan left for America with his mistress, healthy son, and the Walther brothers. No, it magically started in 1847.

Zion on the Mississippi, a masterpiece of analytical history, was written by "a disgruntled LCMS seminary graduate." Yes, everyone who can smell the stink is disgruntled, whether in this sect, that sect, or another one. If you can get Servant of the Word, about St. Walther of St. Louis, you will experience ecstatic joy that someone so perfect was saved from drowning so he could save Lutherdom in America. None dare call it pimping for the bishop until the opportune moment came for a riot, a robbery, and another kidnapping. All great enterprises start with outlaws, don't they?

How did Stephan maintain power over his clergy and girlfriends? Just like Gothard - enforced loyalty, total control of the followers, accusations. forced repentance for those who dissented, excommunication.

Lutherans in America - you are still Stephanites - and nothing will change until that is recognized.

The official LCMS policy is "destroy all evidence of abuse."

It seems hard for us to believe — considering college-town Madison and party-hard Milwaukee are down the road  — but Appleton is considered the drunkest city in Wisconsin in an article by financial news and commentary organization 24/7 Wall St.
Seriously?!?
The website reviewed the percentage of men and women who reported binge or heavy drinking in each state's metro areas, and county data factored into the website's findings.

Do You Agree With This List?
What if I gave you a list of ten things that any church could do that would bring almost immediate renewal and a larger audience for the Gospel?

Would you be interested in the list?

Most would be.

So here is one such list from one of the top Christian leaders* in America:

  • Simplify your structure by putting the authority to make most decisions related to the practice of ministry in the hands of those with responsibility. Translation: let your leaders lead.
  • Call/hire young, have singer who are young, program young. Why? You attract who you have lead worship, and most churches are growing old.
  • Become more contemporary in terms of music and graphics, décor and topics, website and signage. It's 2015. Really. You can check.
  • Stop preaching and start communicating practical truth. There's a difference.
  • Shift the outreach focus away from the already convinced toward those who are not.  It's called the Great Commission.
  • Prioritize your Sunday morning children's ministry in terms of money and staffing, square footage and resources. Do you really not know, after all this time, that the children's ministry is your most important ministry for outreach and growth?
  • "It's the weekend, stupid."
  • Help everyone find their spiritual gifts and then help them channel those gifts toward ministry.
  • Target men. Get the man, you tend to get the family.
  • Proclaim the full counsel of God without compromise or dilution. All you get with a watered-down message is a watered-down church. And a watered-down church has nothing to offer the world it does not already have.

Now, what I just shared with you that the vast majority of churches already know this list.  Not only do they know the list, they would agree with most if not all of it.

But they refuse to act on it.

It's true.

And the reason tends to be the same, in church after church, around the world: they don't want to change.

Which brings up another list.

It's the list of the seven last words of the church:

"We never did it that way before." [That was trite, 30 years ago, don't you know, John?]

Denver Conservative Baptist Seminary. The school changed its name again in 1998 to Denver Seminary to reflect its growing appeal to a wide-spectrum of evangelical students, most of whom were no longer from the Conservative Baptists Association. This book gives a comprehensive overview of Denver Seminary’s history as it developed from a small denominational school to a major evangelical seminary under Grounds leadership. This statement was first used by Grounds to stake out Denver Seminary’s theological position in the midst of conflict between moderately conservative and ultra-conservative factions of the Conservative Baptist Association that eventually led the ultra-conservative faction to withdraw from the CBA and found the Conservative Baptist Fellowship (CBF). Craig Williford, 2000-present Denver Seminary is accredited by Association of Theological Schools, North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, and the prestigious Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Education Programs (CACREP). Denver Seminary’s flagship training and mentoring program, started by former president Clyde McDowell, has distinguished the seminary from similar evangelical schools and led to a significant increase in student enrollment since it was launched in 1998. Denver Seminary Magazine, published quarterly since 1981, addresses current topics in the church and ministry and is distributed primarily to Denver Seminary alumni and other financial supporters.

Pr. Johnson,

Thanks for your insights and work. There are more who support your position than you know. I am thankful that our church (offers both styles) continues to reach more and more people with the Means. More and more babies baptized, adult confirmations continue to increase, Bible classes multiply, the Lord's Supper offered every weekend. To God be the glory!

GJ - It must be that yakkity-yak sax at Crown of Life, Corona, California.

Pennsylvania asked me to predict the future of WELS.

I said, "In five years, if nothing is done, there won't be a WELS. The Church Growth congregations are training people to be Baptist-Pentecostal. Eventually the members and pastors who like Church Growth will join the sects that do it better. Meanwhile, the ones fleeing Church Growth will join Rome or Eastern Orthodoxy."

I also said, "If anyone pushes Kelm or Parlow about being Lutheran, they can pack up and join Missouri, where Kieschnick would welcome them."

The Deformed-Lutheran union congregations of the 19th century all went Deformed eventually. They are United Church of Christ (all the religions the same) today. A few congregations let the Deformed and Masons leave. Some of them welcomed the Deformed back via the Church Growth Movement. The LCA (now ELCA) did that in another way, breaking up the old union congregations in Pennsylvania (in the name of the Confessions), then creating new ones much later in the name of ecumenism.

Church Growth pastors are not Lutheran, except sometimes by accident of membership. They are Deformed. Many end up like Marryin' Sam, Mark Freier, who gladly performs the marriages of Hindus and Atheists. (Question: Does Mark bless the suttee ceremony, when the dead husband is cremated and the wife is tossed on the flames, to honor him?)

The cutting edge of Church Growth in WELS bows to the image of Leonard Sweet. They love his books, study his malarkey, and invite him to teach them the Word.

A Word from Our Sponsor:

91] For the Word of God is the sanctuary above all sanctuaries, yea, the only one which we Christians know and have. For though we had the bones of all the saints or all holy and consecrated garments upon a heap, still that would help us nothing; for all that is a dead thing which can sanctify nobody. But God's Word is the treasure which sanctifies everything, and by which even all the saints themselves were sanctified. At whatever hour, then, God's Word is taught, preached, heard, read or meditated upon, there the person, day, and work are sanctified thereby, not because of the external work, but because of the Word, which makes saints of us all. 92] Therefore I constantly say that all our life and work must be ordered according to God's Word, if it is to be God-pleasing or holy. Where this is done, this commandment is in force and being fulfilled.

100] For let me tell you this, even though you know it perfectly and be already master in all things, still you are daily in the dominion of the devil, who ceases neither day nor night to steal unawares upon you, to kindle in your heart unbelief and wicked thoughts against the foregoing and all the commandments. Therefore you must always have God's Word in your heart, upon your lips, and in your ears. But where the heart is idle, and the Word does not sound, he breaks in and has done the damage before we are aware. 101] On the other hand, such is the efficacy of the Word, whenever it is seriously contemplated, heard, and used, that it is bound never to be without fruit, but always awakens new understanding, pleasure, and devoutness, and produces a pure heart and pure thoughts. For these words are not inoperative or dead, but creative, living words. 102] And even though no other interest or necessity impel us, yet this ought to urge every one thereunto, because thereby the devil is put to Right and driven away, and, besides, this commandment is fulfilled, and [this exercise in the Word] is more pleasing to God than any work of hypocrisy, however brilliant.

O almighty and everlasting God, who by Thy Son hast promised us forgiveness of our sins and deliverance from eternal death: We pray that by Thy Holy Spirit Thou wilt daily increase our faith in Thy grace through Christ, and establish us in the certain hope that we shall not die, but peacefully sleep, and be raised again on the last day to eternal life and salvation; through our Lord, Jesus Christ, Thy Son, who liveth and reigneth with Thee and the Holy Ghost, one true God, world without end. Amen.

http://www.npr.org/2015/10/29/452805058/film-shines-a-spotlight-on-bostons-clergy-sex-abuse-scandal
In 2001, a team of reporters at the Boston Globe began investigating reports of child sexual abuse by Catholic priests. The "Spotlight" team, as it was known, eventually revealed that the abuse had been happening for decades — and that church leaders in Boston had been aware of it and had been involved in covering it up.
Veteran reporter and editor Walter Robinson, who led the Globe's Pulitzer Prize-winning Spotlight team, tellsFresh Air's Dave Davies: "These crimes were unimaginable, and that they could've been countenanced and enabled by such an iconic institution, it gave us so much energy to pursue the story and get the story and make it public."
Now, the new film, Spotlight, chronicles the investigation that brought the scandal to light. Tom McCarthy, who co-wrote and directed the film, says he was immediately drawn to the story.
"As I dug into the material, first just on my own, and then with my co-writer Josh Singer, we realized that the story operated on so many levels. ... It went well beyond the investigation itself," McCarthy says. "It was something we were immediately engrossed in."
McCarthy describes the battle between the Globereporters and the leaders of the Catholic Church in Boston as a case of "Goliath versus Goliath."
"This was the best the Boston Globe had, the Spotlight team was the crown jewel of that institution," McCarthy says. "All over the country there were instances [of abuse] ... but this story, this reporting, it connected the dots, and that is what sort of blew the roof off of this crisis."

Duty to Report Sexual Abuse and Exploitation - Alaska

WELS District President John Steinbrenner has a duty to report child abuse,
not a license to cover it up.

Who are mandated reporters?

The following persons who, in the performance of their professional duties, have reasonable cause to suspect* * that a child has suffered harm as a result of abuse or neglect, must immediately (as soon as reasonably possible-no later than 24 hours) report that information to the nearest office of the state’s Department of Health & Social Services, Office of Children’s Services:
  • Practitioners of the healing arts, including chiropractors, mental health counselors, social workers, dentists, dental hygienists, health aides, nurses, nurse practitioners, certified nurse aides, occupational therapists, occupational therapy assistants, optometrists, osteopaths, naturopaths, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, physicians, physician assistants, psychiatrists, psychologists, psychological associates, audiologists, speech-language pathologists, hearing aid dealers, marital and family therapists, religious healing practitioners, acupuncturists, and surgeons;
  • Administrative officers of institutions, including public and private hospitals or other facilities for medical diagnosis, treatment or care;
  • Paid employees of domestic violence and sexual assault prevention programs, and crisis intervention and prevention programs;
  • Paid employees of an organization that provides counseling or treatment to individuals seeking to control their use of drugs or alcohol;
  • School teachers and school administrative staff members, including athletic coaches, of public and private schools;
  • Peace officers and officers of the state Department of Corrections;
  • Child care providers, including foster parents, day care providers and paid staff.
  • Members of a child fatality review team established under AS 12.65.015 (e) or 12.65.120 or members of a multidisciplinary child protection team created under AS 47.14.300
The law encourages the persons named above to also report cases that come to their attention in their nonprofessional capacities.

Synod President Mark Schroeder has a duty to report,
as an administrator of an institution.

Five women have sued the Institute in Basic Life Principles, once a leader in the Christian homeschooling movement, charging that the organization and its board of directors enabled and covered up sexual abuse and harassment of interns, employees, and other participants in its programs.
Each of the plaintiffs — Gretchen Wilkinson, Charis Barker, Rachel Frost, Rachel Lees and a Jane Doe — seeks $50,000 in damages, alleging that the organization and its board acted negligently, with willful and wanton disregard for them, and engaged in a civil conspiracy to conceal the wrongdoing.
The lawsuit is the latest chapter in a long-simmering scandal that has engulfed the ministry once admired by conservative Christian parents for teaching them how to raise obedient, devout and chaste children since the 1960s. The ministry has found dedicated followers in politics, including Rep. Daniel Webster (R-Fla.), who sought to replace Rep. John Boehner (R-Ohio) as House Speaker, and in entertainment.
Last year, IBLP’s founder and longtime president, Bill Gothard, resigned amid allegations by more than 30 women that he had sexually harassed them. Former followers have said that Gothard was revered as an almost saint-like figure, and that members of IBLP’s homeschooling arm, the Advanced Training Institute, feared questioning him.
Earlier this year, IBLP was once again in the headlines after the gossip magazine In Touch reported that Josh Duggar, the eldest son of reality television stars and longtime Advanced Training Institute members Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, had been sent to an IBLP training center as a teenager after he admitted he had sexually abused four of his younger sisters and a family friend.
The new lawsuit, filed on Tuesday in DuPage County Circuit Court in Illinois, where IBLP’s headquarters is located, charges that IBLP, its employees and directors “frequently received reports” of “sexual abuse, sexual harassment and inappropriate/unauthorized touching.” But, the lawsuit said, they never reported “these serious, potentially criminal allegations to law enforcement authorities or the Illinois Department of Children & Family Services” as required by state law.
David Gibbs III, the attorney representing the women, said in an interview the women decided to litigate only after unsuccessful efforts to address the issues with the IBLP board of directors, who are also named in the lawsuit. Gibbs added that his clients did not want to sue, but that the board “rather stubbornly and in my opinion rather arrogantly basically challenged the girls to bring the case.”
The board, he said, “is not operating in a spirit of transparency or openness,” and has not discussed the allegations with the victims.
IBLP did not respond to a request for comment.
