If you want to find some interesting deletions, open The Lutheran Hymnal, comparing it to the Liberal Book of Weirdness (ALC/LCA) and Christian Worship (WELS). CW took feminist languages many steps beyond the LBW, even tainting the Creeds. Are you surprised to see women teaching men and women preaching from the altar? Mark Schroeder fast-tracked what was already at full speed in the cult.
Other comparisons can be made. The Methodists got rid of the Virgin Birth from their own classic hymnal. "Offspring of the Virgin's womb" became "Offspring of the Chosen One." Although the words were restored, they still appear in printed versions here and there.
Look up Luther's great battle hymn, "O Lord Look Down." TLH #260. Compare. Anything missing?
I recall that Selnecker's hymn was trimmed also.
Omitted hymns ought to count as well, especially when buddies of the editors get their doggerel published as hymns.
If anything gives away the apostasy of the Lutherans today, it is their Mormonizing of the hymns - just before they dumped them for no-talent rockers like Koine, Fidei, and Son.
Getting away with the edits paved the way, as so many slippages do.
Anyone who objects once and does nothing is "Confessional." Another who objects twice and gathers the opposition is a nutcase violating the Eighth Commandment.
